The whole reason why Cineplex built a new theatre behind Westmount Mall was to exploit a loophole where the city wouldn't let them build a new location.

So, the just decided to 'expand' the existing Westmount location by building another location on the property. I think that theatre is there to stay for the long haul.

Shoeless is gone, and TD is moving in November I think? I know letters were sent out to customers who had Westmount as their main branch announcing the move.

Could the underground levels of Westmount be turned into anything? Go kart track maybe?

The owners of this mall have a ton of money. Malls in GTA have been slowly being demolished or planning for the demolition for mixed-use communities. Even Yorkdale mall which is successful is planning for residential and office buildings in there parking lot to diversify. I feel a mixed-use project would very successful in this spot especially with the owners having so much money and them having experience in real estate development.

The theatre was only recently opened, so I would be shocked to see it close anytime soon. The rest of the mall? I think it should be mostly torn down and the land repurposed for residential with some retail/offices. My family doctor is on the second floor, but those offices won't be enough to keep the mall on a paying basis.
Most of the remaining retailing is toast. What kind of mall has both anchors absent? Only the very shittiest of malls.

People who live in the residential parts of such a complex, if Westmount were going to be reconfigured as a retail/residential complex would probably love it as they are just steps away from the movie theatre.

This mall is already 80% medical offices. Just build some condos and retirement residences on top, add a grocery store nearby and you got yourself another successful Cherry Hill Mall II.

There is already a grocery store (SuperKing Market), which replaced the A&P/Metro that formerly occupied that site.

The place reeks of rotten fish. If the grocery store wasn't separated from the rest of the mall entire place would stink.

...They have an amazing bakery however, leftover from the old Metro/A&P.

Still, I'd expect SuperKing to survive even if the rest of the mall dies.

Yup, also just came here to profess my love of Superking. Literally the only thing I go to the Westmount area for (I live downtown).

Superking is better than the Chinese supermarket at the London Mall. The latter is just...a bit too tawdry.

These places tend to reek of fish...on account of the stinky fish tanks at the rear of the stores.

Ya Superking is good if you avoid the fish smell, as well as the meat section. I once had a piece of metal in my ground beef from there.
-I also went to the food to go section and I think they use un-sellable meat/fish in their creations. Lemon chicken was super chewy and low quality, sushi gave me a stomach ache.

-----

Liquidation sales start at Sears today. Expect to see the Westmount parking lot near capacity for this, and likely never again after.
-Heck they might even open P2 underground, usually blocked off. Haven't been down there in years.

I don't know if Sears has said when the stores will close by. But I imagine this liquidation will be much like Target's was, meaning no real deals to start with, and then when the deals come, not much selection.

Up to 50% off thing the key word. I popped in there yesterday, busiest Westmount has been in ages. The majority of things were 20% off. Hardware items only 10%. Luggage was 30% off. I went to check out Cologne and of course no sale on it...

I think Sears makes more money now when liquidating then it made when being open. Deals are bogus, just advertisement on paper. They should have changed their store name to: "Sears Going out of Business" and the sales would have been splendid.

I can see what's left of Westmount Mall disappearing entirely if the dialysis centre decides to move as well. And that could prompt Cineplex Odeon to move further south as well. It would be interesting to see what would happen to the mall property after the mall and the theatre are gone.
The only reason I noticed was cause one of the employees from Shoeless Joes was hired to my work. She told me she was just promoted to assistant manager and they just closed it down unexpectedly.

My only thing about demolishing the mall is that they just built that new Cineplex right in the back, plus the Chinese supermarket are the only two places I really see people at.

As for Sears, goodbye and good riddance. Can't care for a company that can't pay their employees a fair share of the money. Cause I'm sure the CEO and the rest of the Execs aren't going to have any money problems after sears is gone, but all their hourly employees will.

Went there yesterday, most stuff now 40% off. Not that great of a deal, many other stores have similar sales and you can still return them there if you don't want it!

The dollar store in the mall is also closing, not good. 50% off store wide, good places to get some cheap stocking stuffers but it's starting to look a little bare.

that dollar store in WM smells bad and sucks generally. Give me dollarama any day of the week before these wretched independent dollar stores that smell like minted mothballs.
