I used to go to the New Orleans Club on Red River to hear Ernie Mae Miller and Blind George play back in the day (mid 1960s):

I think its safe to say that that quadrant will probably look the same for the foreseeable future. Had to look up how to spell foreseeable, it still doesn't look right...

Unless something cool happens on the narrow lot on the north side of the Austonian block. Other than that, I don't see much changing here.

Views from the Holly Street Power Plant sometime after 1980. I say 1980 because you can see 700 Lavaca in the photo, and it was finished that year.

Wow, I was probably working the "day bar" shift at the FS the day that was taken. I was the only day bartender for my first year. What great memories.

This was taken during one of our forum meets way back in December 2006. We stood atop the just-built parking garage for the AMLI 300 apartment complex on North Lamar, which was still under construction. In the distance you can see the cranes for the Monarch, 360, AMLI on 2nd and The Shore in the distance (left to right).

Archive dive: Look back at Town Lake in 1970s, 1980s

http://www.statesman.com/news/local/...nW683qgJ9j22L/

Some cool photos in there, including one from ~1974 showing the construction of the Bank of America Center. I've seen only one other photo that showed it under construction, but this is the first one I've seen showing it on the skyline.

In 1969 there were plans to add a 19-story addition to the Driskill. There's a very thorough history of the Driskill from the Historic Landmark Commission in the link below the photo.

I'm glad that didn't happen. It was supposed to replace the 1930 Driskill Annex. I would much rather have 1930 architecture over 1969 architecture.

It kind of resembles the original rendering of the JW proposal, so that either makes the 1969 rendering futuristic or the JW first rendering outdated.

What I would love to see if it exists, is some pictures of One American under construction. I recorded it and many other 80s boom construction on VHS but I can't find it, and even if I did, I no longer have a VCR. The view from I35 of OAC with all the cement columns exposed was pretty cool.

I've got some pics somewhere of the One American Center under construction that my dad took. There's also some of me running around with several of the 80s towers under construction in the background.

Here's one for you. I scanned this in years ago from a local magazine, the name of which I don't recall. I have quite the treasure trove that I'll one day get around to scanning in full.

Plus one more. This is from an old postcard that I scanned in. I'm guessing this was around 1983. One American Center is in its early stages here.

I would really love to see more construction photos of the One American Center - Austin's first 400+ foot building.
