You spend more time on the tarmac in Pearson as well as in London, than you spend in the air. A 20 minute flying time becomes 3-5 hours once the usual delays are factored in. Not getting a slot in the landing/runway queue at Pearson. waiting for a delayed flight/crew that is the product of another delayed flight/crew. Baggage didn't follow you on your connection. Whoops, our last 4 flights to London are cancelled due to yet another thunderstorm, so enjoy an unplanned stay in the wastelands of Pearson airport hotels.
It is fucking axiomatic. every fucking flight has a problem! Outward bound, the problem easily compounds when Toronto is not you final destination (it never is on my flying trips). Inward bound, what should be a 1 day system of flights very, very often turns into 1.5 days and some terrible unplanned overnight layover (almost useless as you are rebooked on a 545am flight which gives you maybe 2 hours to sleep one you get to your airport hotel at 2am).

Oh, the perils of the hub and spoke system - we know them well here in Moncton.
I almost always have to make connections in Toronto (occasionally Montreal) to get to where I'm going. I would love to have a trans border direct flight from Moncton to Boston or New York, but the big wigs at Air Canada seem to believe that us peons in the colonies don't deserve any real service and make us fly hundreds of kms out of the way to get to where we want to go.
Halifax really isn't an option either. It's a 20 minute flight, but on a 19 seat puddle jumper that I refuse to take. I could drive to Halifax Stanfield, but that's over two hours from Moncton and the road conditions can be dodgy in northern NS for 5-6 months per year.
I did fly to Boston out of Halifax (return) for a conference once a few years back. I drove to Halifax Stanfield from Moncton. On the return trip back home from Logan my time was spent in this manner:
1) taxi ride to the airport - 30 minutes
2) arriving well before departure -2 hours
3) flight delay (fog in Halifax) - 2 hours
4) flying time to Halifax - 90 minutes
5) circling airport waiting for fog to clear - 30 minutes
6) deplaning, waiting for luggage, retrieving car - 45 minutes
7) drive back to Moncton - 2.5 hours
TOTAL -
over 9.5 hours
YOU CAN DRIVE TO BOSTON FROM MONCTON IN NINE HOURS!!!!!
Never again..............
