I'm not surprised by this change coming from Toys for Big Boys (this will be a very nice facility). Harley-Davidson is very different as a brand from the Honda badge. Both are absolutely not the same company and actually rival companies. It is very fitting that they get their our building and proper dealer. This is not similar to the VW-Audi dealership, Audi is the luxury badge of the VW group (VW and Audi is the same company), but both needed separate dealers, likewise you won't see a Toyota and Lexus dealer in the same building, but they are the same company.

The Lexus dealership in Halifax is in the same building as a Toyota dealership.

That might be, but in most instances it is not. This model of both brands within the same dealership is not something that Lexus or Toyota is pushing or emphasizing either. The North American division of Toyota Corporation is more interested in differentiating both brands as separate divisions.

You can still find locations VW-Audi locations within the same building, but going forward this will not be the norm, nor will it be with Toyota-Lexus.

I was there for a delivery this week and can confirm they will continue to sell and service all other existing brands (primarily Honda but also Husqvarna) out of their existing building...which is good news for folks like us with Honda stuff too (My bike is a Honda CBR) they will now have a more expansive setup for those products along with the new Harley store

I see there was some serious progress in the site prep work for the new Holiday Inn & Suites on Mapleton Road while I was gone. There's no doubt that active construction is imminent.

Massive Moncton Retirement Complex would be built over 13 years

An 8 page report, complete with drawings and a 13 year timeline, describes how 10 buildings make up a Parklands Retirement Living campus.
The report proposes the first four phases for this year, with construction planned until 2030.
A preliminary site plan submitted to Moncton's planning commitee in the fall showed plans for some of the buildings to be as high as 10 storeys.

We've known about this for about a year, but the timeline estimates are certainly new.

So, construction will occur from 2017-2030. This is a huge development. I'm happy to see that they will be starting this year.

It would be nice to see one or two of those 10 story buildings built this year and next.

The new proposal scraps the 10-storey buildings in favour of 6 storeys.

From the T&T - https://www.telegraphjournal.com/times-transcript/story/100187848/shannex:

Quote:
The first phase includes a two-storey, 64-bed nursing home, two-storey special care home with 64 studio suites, a five-storey independent retirement living building with 83 apartments, a two-storey 'pavilion' gathering place for residents that will feature a spa, fitness studio, medical clinic, meeting space and wellness consultants.

Future phases include proposals for several six-storey apartment buildings with underground parking and one- or two-bedroom apartments.

Well 6 is still better than 3 or 4 story buildings. Six story buildings still stand out and add some height while driving around the city, by highway.

I noticed today that Maple Leaf Tractors off of Berry Mills Road is adding a substantial size piece to the building.
Also the new Shell/Sobeys Express in Salisbury looks basically complete. They are still working on the A&W attached to it though.

I believe they are adding service bays.

From the T&T - https://www.telegraphjournal.com/times-transcript/story/100187848/shannex:
I suspect that the 6 storey change would be partly due to construction cost and the National Building Code. A trend approved to be in the code in 2015, but was started in 2009 in BC, is making its way East. Prior to 2015 wooden buildings, a cheaper build than all steel, were not allowed to exceed 4 storeys. Now after more provinces started approving higher builds, the maximum height is now 6 storeys. Some provinces now however are pushing the envelope with 8 and 12 storey buildings from what I hear.
This type of construction is cheaper and quicker but under fire conditions is more susceptible to catastrophic events such as early collapse or massive fire spread.
Just my opinion on why the change.

Is it the second location? I was under the impression that they were moving there and once they open they old location would close so that building could come down.

Nope, it is indeed a second location. They will have to move out of their current location in Dieppe once that strip mall comes down for the new hotel construction, but I gather that is still 2-3 years off. When that eventually does happens though, they intend on relocating somewhere else in Dieppe to continue serving their satisfied clientele.

I believe you are correct on this. I've heard some rumblings to that effect, but not to the point that I was willing to post about it.

This is the location of Usva Spa Nordik. They will be breaking ground on Monday and are planning on being open early 2018.

What a great addition to this area. Here is a render of the project from their Facebook page.

I wonder when the Magnetic Hill Winery is planning on starting their long talked about expansion and possible restaurant.
