Maybe there is something to your theory given that the Lions and Caps play before roughly the same number of empty seats at each game. Who knew that the Vancouver sports fan population was made up of stadium architecture obsessive nerds like those of us who follow this thread?

I think the Lions drew fairly well considering they had 1 week to sell tickets. The whitecaps drew 19,376 against the Toronto FC in the Canadian Championships when they had 21 days to sell tickets. Sure, not an MLS game but none the less it was a winner takes all tournament game against Toronto.

I've always wondered this as well. Surely there are a few rich oil people in Calgary who are football fans who would fund a decent stadium. But this has been proven to be wrong to this point.

That's a very interesting comparison. I think McMahon only cost 1 million to build originally but I wonder what that would be in today's dollars. And it certainly wasn't a cutting edge design, but back in the day stadiums were pretty damn basic.

In any case - guys who manned up like that with their own cash are pretty rare if not extinct.

According to the website, the family provided $1,050,000 in total. That would be $8,634,076.43 today according to the Bank of Canada's inflation calculator. It helps show how different building stadiums is today compared to the 60's.

Likely next summer. Seems like they plan on disassembling a little and selling off chunks of the stadium, plus they'll keep it around until the new stadium is fully operational (which shouldn't be a problem, but just in case).

BC place could have easily been easily more suited to both the lions and whitecaps with some simple foresight. Some removal of some precast in the endzones and you could have ended up with a 35,000 seat stadium with all the clubs,restaurants,high end luxury seating that could have looked a lot like this

Easily? It cost over 500 million to do what they did.

Had a meeting in the OEG offices this morning, great spaces and excellent work environment. We were also treated to a tour of some of the spaces and even got to quickly sit in on the media 'scrum' with coach. That room, visible from 104ave near Wayne, is in partnership with the HHOF and will have rotating displays and memorabilia.

Lower beer prices for the Molson Ford Hall bar.

The Temp endzone stands have already been designated to certain communities. A good chunk of them are going to Gordie Howe Bowl in Saskatoon

The Maxtron is going to Leibel Field where RMF plays.

Yup, that too. I was thinking more along the lines of older/more permanent parts of the stadium (signage, benches, turf, etc).

There's also the ribbon boards and smaller "Maxtron" screen that's attached to the top of the West Grandstand. Wouldn't be surprised to see those distributed, too.
