I wouldn't consider Regina to Minneapolis to be a long flight.

WestJet direct service to MSP would certainly help, not saying it wouldn't.

It's still a huge black eye for the city to not be served directly by a single US carrier.

A Q400 would be fine between YQR and MSP.

I 100% agree. Every time I have had a flight on a Q400 I have had an enjoyable experience, though Embraer 190's have been my absolute favourite flying the Regina Toronto direct. Both newer Planes with nice interiors.

On Friday I was on the Air Canada flight from YXE to YVR, flight was late and it looks they substituted a Q400 for the CRJ705. That is a long flight for being stuck in a Q400, better that old CRJ-200 they would run on the route in years past. Two + hours is a long-time on one of those. I would avoid a Q400 on such a route.

The distance between YXE and YVR is 1201 km. YQR to MSP is 1043 km. The latter certainly isn't that bad for a Q400 (Not withstanding traffic/weather-related delays/IFR approaches etc.)

Jazz operates a daily 6:00 AM flight from YQR to YVR on the Dash 8-400. The distance according to airmilescalculator.com is 1333 km. This flight averages 2h30m to 2h40m. That's a long time to be on a Dash 8, IMO.

With the insanely tight seat pitches WestJet chooses to inflict on its "valued customers" 2h30m is too long on even their 737. I can't imagine their 767 flights.

Their 767 actually has a larger pitch than Rouge - at 6'1" I didn't have a problem with Rouge. The 767 seats on Westjet are narrower though, a huge problem for a 265 lb guy.

I think it was you and I that had this conversation before. On the new aircraft, with the new, thin seats, a smaller pitch feels like more. I now know why. Pitch is not the measure between seats, but between the same place on each seats. If you get a chance to take a new Westjet or Rouge plane with the slimline seats, you'll find that there is a ton of room.

On the other hand, I was on an Aegean flight from Athens to Santorini last month. It had thing seats at a very low pitch, but with solid plastic where your knees sit...ouch. Lucky the flight was only 45 minutes.

Sunwing has added a destination out of Saskatoon for the 2016 charter season. Sunnwing will offer a weekly flight from Saskatoon to Cayo Coco effective December 16th . Schedule will be released later in the year.

I heard that Saskatoon's new downtown highrise correctional facility will be opening in the near future... only one peculiar thing about it; it's signage says 'Holiday Inn and Suites'.

NewLeaf has a press conference at noon today in Winnipeg. It sounds like they will be starting up in the next couple of weeks. As well, I think Regina will only get a non-stop to Kelowna out of this, and Saskatoon will get Kelowna and Hamilton as there non-stop destinations.

Edit: Just read that the flights will start July 25th.

I looks like Regina is significantly scaled back from the original plan. Only one destination (Kelowna) and no real connections out of there. At least its Thurs-Sun Meaning you can whip out to the Okanagan or skiing for a weekend

Wow. Sometimes big savings. Just ran some hypothetical trips from Saskatoon.

Without all of the add-on charges a return flight to Hamilton was $727 on WestJet and $261 on New Leaf. Lots of limitations and differences between the two services, but still a huge difference.

Saskatoon to Kelowna return though started at $231 on WestJet and was $178 on New Leaf. Add in some carry-on baggage charges and it would pretty much even out.

Both trips were August 6th departure and August 13th return.

So potential big savings, but one has to do some investigating.

Why even bother with a carry-on? A checked bag is $25, same price as on WestJet, and $5 cheaper than a carry-on. Just bring a personal item and you're good to go.

Is anyone out there monitoring the construction at YQR as-of-late? Thank you.

RAA is looking for a carrier (any carrier, Westjet & AC included) to step up and provide a direct flight to somewhere in the States.

http://cjme.com/article/712001/regina-airport-authority-looking-new-regular-flight-us

C'mon YQR-LAX direct!

Probably not, but hey, one can dream.

Denver makes the most sense to have a direct, non-stop flight. It is centrally located so you can fly both east and west from there. We used the United service a lot in the short time it served YQR. My vote would be to have AC to Den as it's an easy 2 hour flight, and a Star Alliance member with United makes for good connections.

But yes, LAX and MCO (Orlando) would be nice to have's as well, but unlikely.
