I heard that Mode Choc was closing. I went once for 10 minutes and nope not my store. I found the clothing really cheaply for the most part.
. Parking lot seems pretty empty whenever I go by there.

Not sure if there are actually any Canadian locations But it would be cool to have Canadian, and American retailers in Moncton. Something else that would be nice if old defunct companies could be reborn.

I agree with Scarface, I don't think they have any Canadian locations, so good luck with that......

I haven't heard that Mode Choc is closing, but I'm not an industry insider so I have no comment on the issue other than it's a small chain based in eastern Quebec and the Moncton store therefore is somewhat of an outlier and could be easily dispensable if it is not a top performer. Personally, I don't think it would be missed.

As for a potential replacement, it might be easier this time around as the Mapleton Centre is far healthier now than it was two years ago, and should be attractive to potential lessees. The location of that particular building however remains problematic as it's at the far end of the development. In order to guarantee success, whatever goes in there should be a marquee retailer.

I think JYSK would be a good replacement for Mode Choc. I don't know enough about them to know store sizes and formats though but I do know they have Canadian expansion plans.

I always thought that Jysk would eventually be part of Mapleton Centre, seems like a perfect fit for this retail area.

Richard Childress is legendary in the NASCAR world, and Ty Dillon is the guy who took over the late Dale Earnhardt's car after the #3 was retired for about a decade of mourning Dale Sr.'s untimely death.
Those fishing-show guys are big-time, if you are a fishing-show kinda guy. Sadly, I am not.

That being said, I agree with your "lackluster" comment. I was expecting Tony Stewart from NASCAR, which would have drawn thousands by himself, and some other big-time hunting/fishing/sports stars.

No matter though. On Oct. 7, the star of the show is going to be the store and the discounts. (I've seen the discounts. "Lackluster" applies there as well but there are two or three loss leaders that are appealing to me. Sorry but $50 off a $500 item doesn't cut it with me.)

Nevertheless, this is going to be a huge deal. Expect many people camping out all night and a grandiose grand opening with lots of hype. All in all, it should be very cool.

I saw my first Bass Pro Shops TV ad this evening, announcing their impending grand opening at Champlain Place. The hype is beginning!!

I saw the flyer in yesterdays Transcript and let me tell you it will be great to see how the store looks like and also one thing I still can't figure out how we go the two Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops. I personally think that Bass Pro will be a good tourist attraction for the city and will be great for the Champlain Place area that I think has been struggling over the past few moths with empty store fronts.

I hope that this addition in town will mean more regional retailers and I hope that a Outlet spot like Tagner and even the Premium Outlet brand seriously looks at Moncton.


There are still a few brands that are on my wish list(as you guys know) for Moncton and only time will tell.

And any updates on when Sports Chek will open on Mountain and when Moncton Chrysler will start construction on their new and bigger location?

Talked to a manager at Canadian Tire on Mountain Road and she said the new store in the old Target location is scheduled to open about mid March 2016.

Also, SportChek seems to have a ways to go yet. They are still working on the interior. No shelving or display fixtures are in the store yet. And no signage yet outside.

Bass pro has taken up some window space in the old Coach unit inside Champlain to garner some excitement. Heck I don't need a window....I'm already excited.

Well Good news about Canadian tire. Bad news about SportChek tho.
I will say I walked by the building, and it seems workers are doing there jobs in secret tho unlike Target who had blocked out majority of the Parking lot. So never know Sportchek might be more finished then we think.

With the succes of Ribfest here in Moncton, I was wondering how long it would take before someone opened a true southern BBQ rib restaurant. Looking forward to trying this place once they open.
