Houston Pride 2015: Downtown

This photo thread is a mix... a few of my photos to start, and then some incredible work from others on Flickr.

There's a lot of images showing huge historic pride celebrations in New York City and San Francisco, but Houston has a big pride festival and parade too. This year, was the first time the city held Pride in downtown. Add that to the fact that it was just one day after the Supreme Court's landmark decision for marriage equality, and the result was a record crowd-- over 700,000 people attended the parade in its new venue.

For starters, getting to Pride is always difficult, but at least this year we had the benefit of rail transit into downtown. Though I wasn't the only one that figured this out...

Gotta say, I'm loving the new parade route!

In Houston, the Pride Parade is held at night... it normally starts after sunset.

Considering how interested so many SSP members have been in recent events, I'm surprised no one has commented on this great photo thread. So I'll comment. Very nice photos and wish I could have been there. The Austin media didn't say a word about any of these events, at least not that I saw.

I'll bet Gov Gregg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton weren't there! I did notice the photo of Mayor Parker (is that her wife in the photo?).

Thanks for posting these.

Cool pics. That chandelier hanging from the crane is trippy.

It was a very fun day... more fun than I've previously had at Pride. Hopefully the downtown venue will work even better for next year.

I was out of town when this was posted so I didn't see it. The parade looks like it was a blast! Where was it before the downtown route, Montrose?

Isn't your mayor a lesbian? Or is that another city?
