You didn't see my laughing smiley indicating it was obviously a joke? Good grief. A wee bit defensive of the article which, while we all know is not indicative of all Torontonians, is indicative of some or at least one.

No, I meant the little patch of brown where the green seats used to be in the lower deck stands. The thing you're talking about is for the track and has been there since the beginning.

Had you said:

This guy is a troll, people in Toronto don't like him - attacks against Toronto are unfair, he doesn't represent us.

That is somethign completely different than making it all about how everybody hates on poor ol' Toronto. That is the problem. It's not only, and all about Toronto and what people think of Toronto.

I for one, don't care that so much in Canada comes out of Toronto - population, economically, socially it makes sense! It's not a personal slight against me in any way. It also means that city can be pretty inward focused. Again, I don't care...it makes sense and that is pretty normal for the biggest cities within a country or region. Doesn't hurt me.

I had kind of hoped people would have had the strength to just let the article pass, ignore it and not give the time of day it is desperately looking for. But obviously that didn't happen.

We're not going to agree here.

Klein still "represents" Alberta to a good portion of this country.

Yeah, most people realize that this isn't the hard held opinion of everybody that lives in Toronto. It was still published by a Toronto writer and Toronto newspaper. Rebuke them (which many others out of Toronto have done) for their ridiculous click bait instead of blaming the whole thing on the immature westerners that are making everything up.

No one did.

Can you point to a single "let's bash Toronto" post (let alone multiple posts constituting a "party") before you said the above? That's not a rhetorical question. Can you?

One person pointed out that BMO field is inadequate in comparison to big event stadiums around the world. Is that what constitutes a "let's bash Toronto party"?

I think you are dreaming-up things in your mind.

The very first goddamn comment responding to it did.

I'm "dreaming-up" nothing.

This is what you think constitutes a "Toronto bashing party" and warrants greater concern than the disgusting, error-riddled article itself, which was published in Canada's premiere national newspaper?

You're talking about my comment? It was a statement of fact.

BMO is third rate and an embarrassment to this country as a "national stadium". Commonwealth destroys it in nearly every possible measure. The only category I can think of where BMO beats Commonwealth is in distance from the sideline to the stands. That's it. In every single other category: interior appearance, exterior appearance, capacity, lighting, scoreboard, proximity to transit, you name it, Commonwealth is better and casts a far better light on Canada as a backdrop for televised soccer.

And I say this as someone not from either city and with no horse in this race.

But In the end we are left with moncton Stadium.
Too many CFL football stadiums out of commission if Mcmahon Stadium is involved...although it might not be considered anyways for other reasons. Winnipeg didn't receive any matches for the elimination portion of the tournament and I believe the limited availability of other cfl stadiums in June and July for the Pan Am Games and WWC is the deciding factor.

BMO has a better playing surface for soccer, as well as better corporate and luxury facilities. Scoreboard and lighting are debatable. I'd call them very similar. BMO just got a new scoreboard. The running track makes a big difference as a backrop for televised soccer.

Having said that Kellys article was still idiotic and there is no problem with hosting the opener in Edmonton as Commonwealth has aged beautifully and is a top notch facility.

The real idiots here is the pan am committee and city of toronto who didn't put in a bid for the world cup. Toronto> Moncton. BMO> Moncton stadium. And thats no shot at Moncton. Its just the reality of the situaiton. Heck at least have Hamilton host some games to have a presence in the GTA.

Pan ams were bid on long before the women's world cup. No one knew at the time that Canada would bid or win the rights to host. As it stands you can't have two major events simultaneously in the same city.

While it may be in its current form, the WWC matches would have been played on an artificial surface to ensure pitch consistency across all venues.

They arent simeltaneous. One is june the other july. Bmo is hosting a gold cup game in the middle of the pan ams. Toronto couldve hosted but chose not to / pan am comittee didnt allow it. Hamilton could have as well.

That is correct. My comparison was based on long term surface. Not just wwc.

Ah yes, I see that now.

I also hadn't realized the straight part of the track was so deep a cut into the stands before though.

This why Commonwealth should Scrap the end zones seats build the big gathering place I was talking about and dig the field deeper and extend the lower stands. Wont lose much seating if any (Although it could lose a few 1000's) and their would be no more debate on who's got the best stadium in Canada.

Regina?

In all seriousness. Commonwealth is a beauty. No other stadium will age like she has.

Commonwealth is nice but it needs some modern amenities like wifi, private boxes, luxury suites, loge seating, etc.
