Jericho Garrison Land in Point Grey

http://www.vancouversun.com/business..._lsa=c60e-f389

I know this sale happened a while ago, but I did a search and found no thread but just a slight mention in the general updates thread. I think it's an interesting piece of land as it is probably some of the most expensive in the city up for development right now. The article mentions it could be worth 3 billion after development?

So I've been looking at these forums for a while but never posted. I wasn't sure how to find out if consultations have started yet? If not, when do they start? What do people think should happen to this land?

This land is getting awfully close to the mega mansions near Belmont Ave. Don't get me wrong I'm definitely not a NIMBY supporter, (I'm not even from Vancouver as I've only been here a few years) but I would imagine the residents of this neighborhood would have a lot of say in what is going to happen. I mean living near cambie and complaining about 4 story buildings is one thing, but in my eyes, this is TOTALLY different for this area. This area is filled with old money from what I've heard, and for me, if you've paid 20 million for your property I think that gives you a heck of a lot of say. Allthough, I'm not sure as to what the property values are like in the area directly around the garrison? What is currently there?

Having said that, I wouldn't mind mixed use space like on the western parts of broadway and 4th ave. Maybe the neighborhood would like to have amenities so close to them?

I also wouldn't be surprised if they just developed them into single family homes.

I think the "Old Money" areas are around Kerrisdale, Arbutus Ridge, and Shaughnessy. Point Grey is more "New Money" with mainly Chinese buyers.

Interesting. Are you sure? I always just assumed that there have been mansions in Point Grey ever since UBC was established in the early 1900's. Plus those maps on vancity buzz that show you through a pictorial colour representation of how old houses are show that Point Grey houses are quite old I believe.

Is it that in the early 1900's, the original properties in Point Grey weren't as nice as the ones in Shaughnessy, and only relatively recently have buyers been snatching up the properties in Point Grey and building the nicest homes in vancouver?
