I actually think with the rain it'll be cooler this spring and summer. Of course it'll feel more humid which will raise the heat index, but the actual temperature will likely be lower because of the rain. The only way it'll keep us warmer is at night if we have thick cloud cover since it'll trap the daytime heat in instead of clear skies allowing the heat to escape into the atmosphere.

And I saw that Kansas hit a high of 90F a few days ago. And I remember reading a comment from someone (someone from SSP actually) who lives in Anchorage, that they've been getting rain in winter there when it should be snow, and they've had highs in the 60s when ti should be in the 30s.
Here is a really interesting counterpoint to that NY Times article about the 1-year-left supply:

California has plenty of water…just not enough to satisfy every possible use of water that people can imagine when the price is close to zero. As David Zetland points out in an excellent interview with Russ Roberts, people in San Diego county use around 150 gallons of water a day. Meanwhile in Sydney Australia, with a roughly comparable climate and standard of living, people use about half that amount. Trust me, no one in Sydney is going thirsty.
It also talks about all the wasted water that farmers use because the price is cheap. It's a bit of a libertarian blog so take it with a grain of salt (if libertarian ain't your thing). But it was an interesting read. Just a random thought - imagine if they banned private outdoor swimming pools in CA except for athletic centers, hotels, community centers and schools. How much water would they save? It would never happen of course.

That is both hilarious and tragic. Obvious question for Taco Bell: You are a Mexican-ish food restaurant (allegedly) and "Taco" is in your name. Why don't you try making actual breakfast tacos instead of franken-food? It's not that difficult. All the other fast food companies do it. Not that I would ever eat a breakfast taco from Taco Bell.

It's as if Taco Bell's food engineers thought if it's shaped like a taco...

Or just plain stoned. Taco Bell knows their customer base - I'll give them credit for that.

Holy crap. I'm so going to try that. Kreuz sausage is the best around, in my bbq-snobby opinion.

Not Austin, but:

Report Details How Onerous NYC’s Regressive Parking Minimums Really Are

Developers of small projects who could get a waiver from the city's parking minimums built almost no parking. Those who couldn't built no more parking than required by law.

New research from New York University’s Furman Center [PDF] provides added evidence that New York’s parking minimums are forcing developers to provide unwanted automobile infrastructure, leading to less development, higher housing costs and more traffic.

Didn't Austin remove parking minimums from downtown? Good validation for that decision anyway.

I hadn't heard of this until now, but it looks like an annual college football bowl game will be taking in Austin beginning this upcoming season.

Based on the fact that teams will still have to have a .500 record to be bowl eligible and the Austin game will consist of teams from the C-USA and the AAC (never to be confused with the ACC) conferences, we are looking at an Old Dominion and Temple match up. They were both 6-6 in 2014.

Heres a question. Is there anyone on here that can edit Wikipedia pages? I'm not sure when it happened but someone recently changed part of Austin's climate section from humid subtropical to a transitional semi-arid region with a sorce from some Hong Kong site. It's completely wrong. Austin is most definitely classified Koppen Humid-Subtropical. You have to go at least 100 miles west before a transitional zone and between 125 to 150 miles before a reaching a true semi-arid climate. It was right until the last month and a half when last I checked. I've studied meteorology and climate so I was kinda pissed seeing that especially from a some foreign Chinese site done by someone that likely has no clue what our climate is like..

Welcome to Wikipedia: Information with a grain of salt. Anyone can edit it. I've edited the population data on the Austin page.
