I wish I knew. It looked like the same company was moving all of the homes. I regret not asking, I live just on the other side of 35 and I saw them out there prepping them to move.

A few photos I took today around Austin

The Westin finally rising out of the ground.

Millennium Rainey is pretty much U/C. Notice the rebar sticking behind the fence.

Crane at the Hotel Granduca site.

Also a tower crane base is on site for the new parking garage behind where the Dropbox location will be.

Nice updates. Those projects don't get much attention since their cranes are outliers in the sea of cranes - if that makes any sense.

I gotcha Hill Country. It just so happened that I wanted to take a trip out on 360 today, so I grabbed my tablet and headed west. Though the area is feeling quite different with all the office and residential projects going on out there.

This would be a decent way to "un-ug" some of our blank facades.

Much better than blank. The first pic on the weburbanist page is even more incredible. If there is a way to incorporate lighting, even better. But I think it would be better without painting in people.

Pretty neat idea. There's a few old ones similar to that in Quebec City. I'll try to find them.

But honestly, I'd be just fine with the blank ends of buildings if they just had a little bit of design effort put into them. Don't need windows. But give us something that provides texture and depth.

A new Emerging Projects List was released. The only new thing that I noticed at first glance was the Green Water Block 23 office tower with a start date of later this year:

10 things to hate about Austin's land development code

Robert Grattan
Staff Writer-
Austin Business Journal

Austin's land development code is a mess.

Many builders have said so, and now that's the conclusion reached by consultant Opticos Design Inc. after the city asked the California-based group what has gone wrong with the rules that govern what can be built across Austin. The report is part of a larger effort that began last year to remake the city's land development code and bring it in line with the goals in the 2012 Imagine Austin growth plan.

You can read more about the land development code's woes and the city's push to rewrite it in our weekly edition, or online here.

And what about the project at 1210 Barton Springs Rd? It says the project will include an 80-room hotel, 30 condo units and an art gallery. It's where Jack & Adam’s Bicycles is now at the south end of the Butler Pitch & Putt between that Jack in the Box and the railroad bridge.

I notice that Jack and Adam's Bicycles is planning on moving from there into the Cole Building at 300 S. Lamar and their goal is to be moved into the new location by June 1, 2014.

A small but notable update: it appears that, as of tonight, columns at the South Congress Hotel have risen above street level finally. Since I got down here I have been wondering if anything was even happening behind that fence

IT LIVES

I'm not sure who the developer thinks the customer is for this weird duck, but St. Croix Capital is building these strange looking buildings on the east side of IH-35 between Howard Lane and Wells Branch Parkway in Northeast Austin and calling them The Lakes At Techridge. No where near a lake, by the way. I sort of like the entry design with the giant glass door (very impractical), but the buildings seem to be camo'd in bubble-wrap or some sort of honeycomb thing. Taking 'creative space' to a whole different level, I guess.

A link to the marketing flyer with maps, site plans and more images is here: http://oxco.reapplications.com/filec...0Techridge.pdf

They should call it 'The Barracks at Techridge.' Who's the builder...Palm Harbor?
