Is it just an open public building where I can walk in? I mean, I can't go to prison again.

This picture with the CCH on Arrow Press Square would look amazing!

Hotel construction by the ESA. Looks like the South end of the Hyatt was tagged and pictures are below. Seems like the Marriott has the foundation being put in and prep't in other areas. Should be seeing it rising here in a couple months.

Now another location for the CCH. I prefer this location over Arrow Press Square, but I do have to admit Arrow Press Square visually is a much better location. Though for a continues flow of the Salt Palace RWP works better and will encourage better development along 2nd South. I hope if RWP is chosen that with rezoning of that block that Salt Lake will took to the future and rezone more of 2nd South farther West to the gateway allowing for taller buildings.

And everyones favorite building on the right.

nice shot of the Regent poking up above other buildings. Such a sexy building and wish it was 10 floors taller to be a bit more prominent in the skyline.

Now for the State Street Plaza apartments. Looks like they are working on the 3rd floor, but still seems slow for steel construction. Sure taking their time on this and would say this isn't going to be finished for another good 12-18 months. Starting to think the CCH will be finished before this is completed. Not sure when they started construction on this but I am guessing its been about 2 years now.

Thank you so much for those updates! Now I am really wishing that the gardeners of Temple Square could come and do my flower garden in front of my apartment.

We've often discussed the redevelopment of this corner. I would be very interested to know which of these buildings should be sacrificed. I'm sure there's a variety of opinions. I mean, if they were to put an iconic W Hotel there as a follow up to the CCH at RWP, or some such comtemporary structure as designed by that U. of U. student, some of those small structures would have to go. The corner is most definitely underdeveloped at this point in the downtown evolution. However, would you prefer to just leave it as is or go in and redevelop the corner with a major project.

IMO, and maybe this is just too idealistic, I would like to redevelop the corner. However, only after the buildings to be taken out are carefully disassembled,(at the very least their historic facades and important interior elements) and then reassembled on a more intimate street location like Market Street or Pierpont. This would not include the Dinwoody. The Dinwoody should stay and be pristinely restored.

You are welcome and I will "try" to get around town more often to take more pictures. The moment I walked into the Main Street Plaza you could smell all of the flowers and I couldn't resist taking a couple pictures while there.

Man, that's gotta be frustrating to the people paying for it. Unless their paying for it (or not) is causing the delays. I thought after steel started going up it'd go faster, but...yeah. No.

That yellow crane will be there until the CHH is open.

I like all of the buildings. I think any new redevelopment, or repurposing of those buildings, needs to preserve the buildings as well. There are plenty of open lots around downtown that can serve as the spot for any new hotels coming to town.

The only building here I am okay with loosing would be the 1 floor red one on the corner. The others have character and more density that I like. Yes I have been on this forum since 2002 and have been an active member here from that time and I don't know all of the buildings names. Not sure of what the 4 story building on West Temple and the badly recladed building on 1st South. I know the building on West Temple has been vacant as I looked inside it about a year back. The other building if the original facade isn't underneath anymore I "may" be okay with it going.

The rest of the buildings can stay. But that will make using that corner for a large hotel difficult unless most of those buildings get demolished to accommodate its foot print. Only way would be a developer willing to either keep the facades or build overtop of them.

I would also be ok with the red brick corner building being demoed and redeveloped but I'm with you StevenF, I don't want to see the rest of those buildings on 100 S and W. Temple torn down. Most of us refer to the 4 story building on W. Temple as the X-96 building, they broadcast from their when they were independently owned, and the bad re-clad on 100 S in the Dinwoody Building.

I think they could accommodate a slender sexy 8-12 story building on the corner, preferably residential, or a boutique hotel.

I don't know why, but for some reason I've been thinking all this time that the orientation of the main entry of 101 was on the northeast corner, not the northwest. This kind of surprised me. Now that I actually am aware of it's true engagement with that intersection, I like it quite a bit. I think it is a complimentary neighbor to the Bennett redo across the street, the two styles mix well together. Also, that would seem to be a pretty attractive little mid-rise intersection now, from a pano perspective(hint hint Steve).

I love the idea of a boutique hotel there with a restaurant/bar on the ground floor. That would be ideal.

Me Too. I think I'm trending in your direction Jedi and Future Mayor. Even still, I'd like to preserve the materials as much as possible of the little corner one story, and reassemble it at a neighborhood or more intimate street corner. Hmm, The Avenues or Marmalade perhaps. What a cool corner restaurant that could make, with a nice sidewalk café in front.

How's this for a win win?, tear down all those buildings ( not the Dinwoody building ) but preserve the facade of the x96 building and re-use it somehow on part of the base of a highrise CCH. Maybe use that facade for the meeting space.

That's not a win win, losing the Bennett Paint Building, the Naked Fish building and the Cafe' Molise building would be a big loss, IMO. I think that row of buildings, not including the little red corner building gives 100 S some great intimate historical character. If they were to restore or recreate the Dinwoody facade, and add some residential to the upper floors, 100 S would be a great stretch of street in downtown. The great buildings on 100 S along with a new residential or boutique hotel on the corner, with the addition of a restored X-96 and the arrow press narrows and you have a very intimate, eclectic, vibrant neighborhood within the downtown neighborhood.

Those tiny 1-3 story buildings are not worth saving IMHO. That corner is a prime place for a highrise hotel, being right across the street from the main entrance to the Salt Palace and across the street from City Creek Center. It doesn't have to be a CCH, but having some kind of hotel there would be a great place for one.
Most of you only want to preserve those building due to the historical facades and it's a win win to preserve the x96's facade and maaaayyyybeeee the three story building's facade, but other then that, the red and brown-ish buildings don't wow me at all. Why can't we just reuse those facades much like what we saw with the ZCMI's facade saved and then replaced in front of a whole new building and reuse it into a newer building? Reuse that corner lot for a much better purpose then just a signal story bar or what ever it is?

They are worth saving IMHO. We've already lost so many old 3 story buildings in the heart of our downtown that I would hate to see anymore be destroyed, especially ones that are in use. There are so many other places that another high rise hotel could go that are still close to the Salt Palace. Shilo, honestly would anyone miss that? The building kitty corner from the Shilo, such a nondescript after thought we don't even have a name for it. SW corner of 200 and 200.

Yes that is prime location, but how many more places in the core of downtown are we going to tear down and rebuild over and over. It's time to expand our downtown footprint, leave some older buildings in tact and expand a block or two West, East and South. I would be happy if the PAC demolition is the last demolition of a usable buildings in the downtown core.

Would you honestly prefer to have a large tower hotel on that entire NW section of that block rather than keep some historic structures and have something so unique to SLC like the Arrow Press Narrows concept? I know I wouldn't. Yes a W hotel would be cool there, but wouldn't it be just a cool on the SW corner of that same block, and having it adjacent to the Arrow Press narrows. A cool hotel and something uniquely Salt Lake City.
