The Royal York would be very prominent in Toronto (and once was) if it weren't dwarfed and obscured by skyscrapers in every direction. On the street, the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa has great presence. I agree, though, it doesn't compare to the Empress, Hotel Vancouver, Palliser, Hotel MacDonald, Bessborough, and Fort Garry, at least on the skyline-level.

Cool perspective of Calgary. Is most of the infill occurring in the beltline going to visible from this angle?

Only in the east half of the Beltline.

There's a fair amount of development going on in the western part of Beltline (I can think of at least a half dozen underway right now), though it isn't the full block, massive point tower projects like in the eastern half of the community. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say that about 2/3 of the development going on is in the area pictured.

I'd say the only four grand railways hotels that really pop out in their respective skylines are the Chateau, Bessborough, Empress, and Hotel Saskatchewan. At least in the average skyline shot. The Laurier could stand out quite well, but Ottawa skyline shots are hardly ever seen from that angle. Of course there are the Banff and Lake Louise, but neither of those cities/towns have skylines per se.

Only about 1/4 of the Beltline is visible from that view, but a disproportionate amount of proposals and UC towers are in that area, with 6 UC, and 6 proposals. the rest of the Beltline has development spread pretty evenly with about 7 towers UC and a dozen or so proposals.

^ Yeah, never mind about the Palliser, at least today. Chad, from the most popular angles, the Hotel Mac in Edmonton is still fairly prominently showcased. Dwarfed by towers, yes, but still very front-and-centre perched atop the river valley.

Though while we're on the topic of Victoria, it doesn't really have a visible skyline either and the Empress is only so iconic because it shows up in every non-skyline postcard of the city. At least Ottawa has a skyline of sorts.

I was going to mention Hotel Mac. That one is definitely prominent from the south, though the towers over shadow it.
