All the platforms will be done by the end of 2014, and you may see *limited* 4-car trains operations on rush hour keys.
All of the remaining platforms will probably fire up in spring, with the actual placement of platform extension planks scattered throughout weekends and long weekends (depending on the scope of work for each).

I believe Banff Trail is actually getting an entirely new platform, not just an extension, so it may be a bit more involved there then expected by many.

SAIT is probably the biggest project, having to remove the north building. 39th Ave will just get a quick extension toward the tunnel, while the three remaining NE platforms are pretty straight forward (other than the platforms themselves being curved), although, work on the new Bridgeland double-crossover will need to be done before some work here to allow for better single-tracking.

I’m not necessarily against that, but I don’t know why it should be done. This seems like the right thread to me. I’ll let a moderator make that call.

Well I think the thing is HSR isn't really Calgary public transit.

I don't know why they have zoo set for Aug long weekend. Flip with with Barlow Max bell and do the zoo Easter long weekend instead - much better for the zoo. Barlow Max Bell is good anytime for the low usage that one gets.

I know some here think 39th Avenue station extension is going to be a challenge, but last time I went there, I know there is room to expand towards the tunnel. The electrical and controls equipment east of the tracks would have to be shifted though--likely even closer to the tunnel.

Well, it’s a form of public transit and about half the users would be Calgarians, but if a mod wants to make this topic into a separate thread that’s fine with me.

I certainly agree, but for quite a while the way the schedules were planned the Blue line was going to be capable before the Red.

When the 4-car platforms are complete on the South Line, certain trains at peak hours could be run from 69th Street to Somerset in the same way that some trains run from the NE through downtown to the NW. Even before the remaining stations that need the 4 LRV upgrade are completed. Saying that, is the power infrastructure ready for a 4 LRV train yet?

I was very impressed with the great New Years Eve/New Years Day service. A few shots I took at LRT stations.

I wish there was a reasonably economical way to keep the Westbrook station platform area somewhat warm.

I do believe that all the substation upgrades that were needed have been completed.

I have an idea: let's surround the station in highrise buildings and fill the station with people.

I have one too! Cover up the trench from the west portal to 45 Street. That stretch, in my mind, should have been a tunnel with a super-wide sidewalk and bike lane on top.

I was wondering if a system of fans blowing towards the platform from both tunnels could keep warm air in the platform area rather than flowing out of the tunnel.

I have wondered that as well. Something like those air curtain things that stores in Banff use so they can keep their doors open in winter - except on a larger scale.

Calgary’s make up has changed since last late-night transit last offered

It would cost $350,000 to extend transit service to 2 a.m.

roughly 2,000 people would use the extended late-night service.

My one concern is when you have a 'once off' extended service, I'm not sure if you're going to get a huge jump in numbers. It seems like the sort of thing where you need a service in place for 6 months or a year to truly see what kind of buy in you get, or in the case of just NYE service, do it for 5 years in a row so it's something people expect rather than think later "Oh right, I forgot that THIS year it's available"

The overnight service outage is fairly important for maintenance, has the lowest projected ridership, and the highest liability (in terms of vandalism, violence, vomit). However, I wonder if it wouldn't make sense to run regular 40-foot buses on the 201 and 202 routes for late-night service, especially on nights that expect heavy drinking.
