Unlikely, but one can hope. The biggest thing that bug me about this development wasn't so much the design, but the parking to it's side. Hope they put retail space along the side facing 200 east.

I do not believe that the design has changed. There will be ground floor retail on 200 East. The developer made a request to get out of the requirement but it was denied by the Planning Commission.

I can stop by and take a picture tomorrow because I live right next door to it. I really like it. I think it looks cool and I like the colors.

For those who don't know this is what the Boyer Building would look like,

Office Building
Proposed
Address: 101 S 200 E
Other 9 floors, plus roof top mechanical and the front tower would be taller.

Says 9-stories, but does anybody know how tall ( feet wise ) this building will be?

Salt Lake City should have a Design Review Board. I don't think that would have passed if they had a board with good architects and planners in it. In Portland and other cities, they have very extensive Design Reviews. I was working on a 2-story grocery as an infill development, and there was another similar but larger store my co-workers were working on, and they had several design revision meetings before final approval was given. Maybe SLC does have one. I don't know. But, I find it hard to believe that this would have passed. This is an older architect for sure who is designing this. It's not ugly, but it's so outdated. I think this kind of height and density will be nice, though, despite our design objections.

This is what us Portlanders call The Big Pink. It is 42 stories and was built in the early 1980's. As you can see, the stepped stone pattern is similar to the one breaking ground in SLC 30 some years later.

And, then this one, you all know, was also by Boyer Co., but is now over 20 years old.

Sigh. It's so, so generic and sterile. And so close to the core of downtown.

Cottonwood Corporate Center called—it wants its design philosophy back.

Somewhat better design but only 7-stories now? Why do alot of our developments end up losing a floor or two in final renderings? Geez.

It'd look great in a Cottonwood office park.

Ha! Did not even see your reply about it fitting right into the Cottonwood Corporate Center before posting mine.

Great minds...

When it's finished we can all make believe that it is a nice infill project completed a few decades ago.

I like it. However. I don't understand some of you. Not every building has to pay a respectable tribute to a historic style. Not every building has to have certain height. If this was built in sandy everyone would be complaining that sandy is getting buildings. Its filling in empty lots which downtown has plenty of. You want more density. Well fill up the empty spaces.

Hmmm... a box with a "tower" on one of the corners... What'll they think of next!

It's not horrible but I don't like it very much.

Boyer

The lot where the new Boyer building is going to be built is the lot where many of the old Questar building employees parked. When it (old Questar) fills up where are all those employees going to park? I believe that they're both Boyer projects, so will the new one have enough for both?
