They should be able to save most of those children by getting the floor count reduced by 5.

it's not the building that will kill children...it's the shadow.

I like it...and it will certainly add some more bulk to the Tunney`s area skyline...

I'm just worried about the invisible wind tunnel being created on Parkdale now, children 7 and under will have to fill their backpacks with bricks to ensure their safety.

Don't worry, I think as part of their application to the city the developer has promised to tie millstones around the necks of all the children in the neighbourhood. It was either that or have some guy from Germany come in to play the flute and lead them off in a procession somewhere.

Hmmm I've herd about that tactic with the German fellow -I wondfer what happened to the subjects he lead out of town?
As for the neck-ties, is't that a choking hazzard? I would have though bubble-wrap suits with concrete shoes to be more appropriate.

Well, if there is no-one else to do it, at least the members of SSP Local Ottawa ARE thinking of the Children!

Although not ugly, it is boring.

Strategically boring. If you do anything different (like the original Soho Italia proposal), people notice. And if experience teaches us anything in the Ottawa development universe it's that it's best if no one notices. Except buyers, of course. But when staid and safe designs are the only thing being offered across the market, you don't have to worry about competition from, say, an actual challenging and provocatively designed building.

My thoughts exactly, however the rendering isn't complete (obviously) maybe with the right type of brick and colour scheme, it would be much less boring - unlikely, but one can hope.

Not to mention the problems this will create for gardens and lawns in the neighbourhood. It's a well known fact that vegetation can not grow in the massive omnipresent shadow of a 28 story super skyscraper.

recommended for approval at 30 fl / 97m
http://app05.ottawa.ca/sirepub/view.aspx?cabinet=published_meetings&fileid=45795

the plans in the report are different than what has previously been posted, there is a bit of a curve to the building on the south side... Community association not pleased that the design of this building and the Tega building are different than what was previously on the table http://t.co/b4ejGeHu

The City Planning Department's presentation on the zoning amendment has been posted here: http://app05.ottawa.ca/sirepub/cache/2/leq2hsnzcqmh3puc4unlfc14/4778202272013033718572.PDF
It has some of the updated renderings, as well as a few birds-eye and long-distance views of a future Mechanicsville with all three Parkdale Ave highrises (99, 111 and 159) included.

Thanks for sharing. Very nice!

My 3 year old son is sitting with me at the computer looking at these documents. When he saw the renderings McC is talking about (below) he said, "Oh. That's a big city!"

Our boy should be that age when digging and construction is underway, we'll never want for something to do!
