New statue for Legislative Gardens

NEW SCULPTURE TO COMMEMORATE CENTENNIAL OF LEGISLATIVE BUILDING

Today Premier Brad Wall announced plans for a new sculpture to be added to the Queen Elizabeth II Gardens at the Legislative Building in Regina.

"Walter Scott, our amazing first Premier and a father of confederation is not well known," Wall said...It is only fitting that we pay tribute to Walter Scott and the role he played in laying the groundwork for a vibrant and strong Saskatchewan."

A life-size bronze statue of Walter Scott will be designed and installed at the north end of the Queen Elizabeth II Gardens in front of the Legislative Building in June 2013.

2300 sqft lot? That's TINY. The typical 'small' lot in Cathedral is 25x125, and it looks like this lot is lacking the depth at the back, so I'm assuming it's 25x92.

That's going to be one skinny, squeezed-in house that they build there. Doubt it will even have room for a garage out back, or if they do, there won't be a backyard.

Last line of the article: All indications are that we're continuing on next year at this kind of pace.''
Saskatoon hit $1 billion by the end of November and is also now breaking a record. This bodes so well for the province that the 2 largest cities continue to be the economic engines...now, if the province could only wake up to this and provide more support to our 2 major cities acknowledging the importance of supporting their respective infrastructure needs...I assume it is as much an issue in Regina as it is in Saskatoon??

I also noticed that sign today, and wondered where on earth a house could be built. Very small, is zoning allowed for a popcorn stand, never mind a house! I hope they aren't planning one of those cookie cutter tall, skinny grey houses, all identical, that are popping up all over the place. They buy a lot, tear down a house and build 2 on the property.
Wondering what the property owner to the north thinks of all this. Maybe he will object loudly.

OK - so I'm not crazy . . . seemed WAY smaller than typical, but I wasn't sure. No matter the size of the house, I'd hate to be the neighbour to the north.

Emterra Building Project in the GTH is moving forward.

Lots of condo's going up in Regina:
Newrock Developments - Rosemont Court, Seymour Pacific - Henderson Meadows, Jastek had 9 units starting in January, and Boardwalk Properties has 5 buildings coming in the next few months. This is all off the cuff.

Cabela's is out of the ground with ICF walls starting tomorrow, New Redhead Building is putting steel up now, College Park II has the main floor done and is starting to build the columns and elevator shafts. Safeway on 13th has the grade beams done and some work is moving forward on the Canadian Tire Redevelopment.

Times are good in Regina, doesn't feel like a winter slowdown is coming.

The lots on the west side of wascana street and east side of pasqua in cathedral are only 90 feet deep. I believe the elphinstone lot is 106 feet deep.

Yes a simple google search of emterra/gth/regina shows they plan on bulding a recycling plant near the GTH.

Here is some good news about our sporting venues via skate canada, excpet for the fact that we do not have enough hotel rooms at any given time to host skate canada nationals... http://www.leaderpost.com/sports/Regina+...+Challenge+organizers/7658471/story.html

Anyone here any other info about the ALT hotel going downtown?? Here is an article of a new ALT hotel to be opened in ottawa, regina's could be similar i would think.

Interesting request for expressions of interest on Sasktenders:

Competition Name: Request for Expressions of Interest for Head Office Project in Regina, Saskatchewan. Ref #SGIRFEI1/12. Synopsis SGI is looking to sell a 184,000 sq ft. high rise office building and relocate to a new head office building in the range of 210,000 sq. ft. . RFEI packages available to qualified parties upon request. Enquiries to Al Duchscher at (306) 751-1332 or email [email protected]

What is the square footage of the proposed 12th and Rose building?? Would SGI want a building all to themselves and own it, or could they replace FCC and an anchor tenant in this building?

Edit: 437,000sf.

This is pretty much what we predicted on this forum years ago. If they need to retrofit that building, they will have to move out first.

I'm confused...FCC has no part in the proposed office building @ 12th and Rose as they are having Harvard build a second FCC office tower of 10 or 12 floors next to their current HO on Hamilton ST. They will then vacate their leased space in the Conexus bldg accross the street and in Century Plaza.

However, sounds like SGI could be the anchor tenant in the new proposed office tower @ 12th and Rose as the square footage would work. If so, in the move they could divest themselves of their current HO bldg which needs work (thereby paying for the move and maybe providing a "special dividend" to the province) all the better. I would think that if this is the case, we can expect the announcement of some other corporate office move to Regina to purchase and occupy the current SGI HO. I wonder who might me moving some office jobs to Regina? K+S? They have office space in S'toon. Vale? Western Potash need more room? Someone else we have yet to hear from? Any rumours out there?

This is actually very interesting IMO!

Anybody Want To Buy An Office Tower?
by Gregory Beatty

Here’s a link to a tender that was posted on the Government of Saskatchewan website today stating that SGI was in the market to unload a 184,000 sq. ft. high rise office tower in Regina (presumably the one pictured at left) with further plans to move into a new 210,000 sq. ft office building.

If you recall a few years ago, we had a horrendous windstorm one afternoon that necessitated the evacuation of the SGI tower. It was said at the time, I think, that the building needed some significant structural upgrades. So you might be able to get it for a bargain price.

As for where SGI might be relocating to, for now that remains a mystery. There was talk a couple of years ago about a big-— office building at the corner of Rose and 12th Ave (currently the site of a surface parking lot). I don’t know what the status of that project is, or if it’s related in any way to SGI.
SOURCE PRAIRIE DOG BLOG, rumor has it they want to be downtown ,having larger floor plates , maybe 16 floors

Remember to post the link dude XD

I seem to remember talk that the 12th and Rose tower was competing with Havard to supply FCC with their required additional space. Since FCC went with the Havard tower, the 12th and Rose tower has been trying to secure a main tenant (possibly now SGI?) before proceeding with construction.

No sources on this, and I could be wrong it is just what I seem to remember from past discussions here and elsewhere. This is what I was referring to in my first post although looking back, it wasn't very clear.

Would take some work but it would be interesting to see if SGI moves out, would a company come in and gut (would take a ton of gutting) the current tower and possibly look at turning it into a condo.

Doesn't seem likely but it would be possible. Whoever buys the building will likely get it for a song since it requires a ton of structural work. Would still be cheaper than building new. Awesome location for condos though if they do it.

I may have missed a post, but are you suggesting that you think an ALT Hotel could work in Regina, or that it is actually happening? I had a look at their website & Regina isn't mentioned (Halifax & Montreal in 2013, and Winnipeg in 2014 are mentioned, though)

They've advertised and are actively looking to obtain land in downtown Regina for a hotel. It wouldn't be listed because I don't think they've acquired any land yet, so they can't really put any dates or any type of solid schedule forward.
