Yeah, it's really too skinny to make a huge impact from a distance.

i.e. Shangri-La and One Wall Centre make the biggest impacts on their "long" sides. The Georgia doesn't have a "long" side.

True. The only real "long side" of the Georgia -top to bottom - is the Howe Street side, but that is obscured by the other buildings around it.

No matter; once people get right downtown, they'll still be impressed by it, I'm sure.

Yeah, I miss that old view. Especially now that it is nearing top-out and the glass is just beautiful .

Pics by me today (cloudy day quality).

There seems to be some odd variation in the colour of the blue spandrel panels on the south side.
I like the newer darker blue spandrels (which are taller than on the floors below), but the lighter ones below look patchy.
The ones closer to HSBC look consistent with each other (and look fairly typical).
Too bad the windows between the balconies and the vertical "gutter" don't match the ones closer to HSBC.
(i.e. the lines are broken up by the change in glazing at the balcony, then further by the different look)
That area to the left of the "gutter" looks pretty "busy" or haphazard.
Mullions/framing on the corner balconies looks good (at one time it looked like there would be a stagger at each floor)
The east facing angled facade has more gray/silver slats - presumably for venting.

So the plain old boring north side may actually look sleeker than the south and east sides?!?!
But why do I think that the north facade east of the "gutter" will have horizontal stripe spandrels?

Could be that this tower won;t have any "clean" or "sleek" sides....

You might be right - that way, it would mirror the south-west side...

Seems to be the case based on the terrifying model, which makes the current construction look slick in comparison:

I really hate the blue spandrel. I do like that for the smooth curtain wall sections, they're only using one pane of glass to span each floor, instead of bridging it with stupid clerestory or knee-high strips.

looks like they finally found the manual on how to install glass. too bad they read it poorly and it looks like crap. oh well.

Yeah, the glass is non-existant on that model.

BTW - mounting brackets for the "Hotel Georgia" sign (vertical sign) were installed on the corner of the heritage block yesterday.

FYI, the sign will be installed Saturday, if anyone wants to have a look. Georgia and Howe will have lane clsures for it.

i dont feel this tower made much of an impact, it is basically a taller building in a sea of buildings...to think honestly about the ritz, it probably won't make that much of an impact either, since the area's already flooded, and not much of a deal if u add another 150-200m....which is the suggestion of height increase

it's probably in the better interest to increase height in the suburban centers..

I think they're now on the last floor. I'm sure they'll be a ceremony in the near future for the topping off. Wish it was going ten stories higher. Noticed in the westender the nimby's who didn't want another beach avenue tower may get an more bulkier low rise. Decided it was time to call the rant and say. Hey you don't buy your view or rent your view. If a few more others call the rant. 604 742 8673 give a supporting view for taller buildings, we can fight the WEN who want no new buildings and certainly no taller buildings.
