Denver's Larimer Square, plus others incld Boulder

I was in Colorado this last week for family business. Most of the time I was down in the southeastern part of the state, but managed a few hours each in Denver and Boulder. Here are some pictures.

For larger versions, please visit the flickr sets (Denver, Boulder)

Denver:

Larimer Square:

Tabor Center:

16th Street Mall, with D & F Tower:

Union Station:

In this view I don't mind the new building at left. It's plain and boring, but inoffensive, and it matches the scale of the older building right well enough. It's not my favorite, but I don't hate it:

But take a few steps back and WOAH is this ugly:

Normally I'm not a big fan of whimsical public art, but I have to admit I find the big blue bear peering into Denver's ultra-sleek convention center totally charming:

A building on 16th Street:

Another one:

I hope he made it in time:

16th Street:

Details:

Now for BOULDER:

The main library at CU:

Various buildings on the CU campus. The ornate building at lower right is the dorm at which the real-life person South Park's "Chef" was based on worked in the cafeteria:

Pearl Street, downtown:

A neat art installation. It's a map of Boulder County. The 3D blocks represent cities, with larger blocks being larger cities:

Boulder Creek, hand-held at night (thus the fuzziness):

I also took several pictures focusing on transportation, which I'll post in another day or two.

Awesome photos.

Unlike you, many folks love the Sugar building. I'm indifferent on that one.

I'm digging it. I think I am going crazy b/c I feel as if you've posted & commented on that bear picture before.

It's possible, Okstate. I was in Denver about 2 years ago and would have posted a thread of pictures from the trip, probably quite a bit longer than this one.

Nice set Cirrus!

Different strokes for different folks: from this pic, I actually love the building you call ugly. What's the gray cladding like along the top 2/3s like? Faux-slate or something?

It's scary that I can remember that & I don't even remember what I had for dinner last night.
