A Complete List of All Olympic Driven Construction/Infastructure Accomplishments!!!
This thread is a dedicated to all Olympic driven developments and infrastructure which have taken place since Vancouver was announced as the 2010 host city.
We can assume that most of these developments would have not taken place (or at least not so soon), were it not for the Olympics.
There are many that will have escaped my memory, so please fill in any which I have missed.
Developments which were born out of the Olympic Initiative (Directly and Indirectly).
1) Completion of Olympic Village
2) Upgrades to Sea to Sky Highway.
3) Renovation of Pigeon Park.
4) Renovation of Granville St.
5) New Permanent lighting installations throughout city.
6) Completion of Coast Coal Harbour Hotel.
7) Completion of Fairmont Pacific Rim.
8) Completion of Canada Line Skytrain.
9) Renovation of Expo Line Broadway Skytrain station.
10) Completion of Richmond Olympic Oval.
11) Upgrades to Cypress Mountain.
12) Renovation of GM Place.
13) Completion of Woodwards.
14) Completion of Vancouver Olympic/Paralympic Centre.
15) New Palm Trees planted at English Bay.
16) Terminal Expansion and Renovations to Vancouver International Airport.
17) Completion of Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.
18) Expansion and Renovations to CBC Broadcasting Centre.
19) Completion of Vancouver Convention Centre.
20) Completion of Carrall Street Greenway.
21) Renovations of BC place.
22) New Vancouver Sea Plane Terminal.
23) Renovation of Robson Square.

Sorry don't agree with quite a few items on that list. The Olympics have had lots of impact no doubt but it's often credited/discredited for way too many developments. In fact there was at least one office tower that was delayed solely because of the games.

So is the GM tower going to get started this year? I hope the plan remains unchanged, I thought before they were going to go ahead without a anchor tenant but I always figured the main reason they said that was to squeeze more money out of VANOC (I think they got over 30million). In the end im not so sure the tower would of been built without a anchor tenant and in that location it could take a while to find one. But hey im sure you and few other on here are much more qualified to make such a opinion and know more about it.
I'd think the olympics probably delayed GM Place Tower but I know the olympics delayed the Bentall tower, in fact they are even unhappy with the fiscal stimulus spending and gateway project which has kept construction costs higher then what they would've liked.
The Olympics also likely delayed the Evergreen line. If it's credited for getting the C-Line built, then that line delayed the EG line at least a couple of years.
The timing of delivery of the 48 new SkyTrain Mk2 cars was geared to make sure they arrived in time for the Games. The same is true for the hundreds of new Translink buses that have been rolling into town.

Metro-One beat me to it... The demonstration line is called phase 0. Phase 1 is supposed to go to Waterfront Station according to the map on the City of Vancouver's website.

Actually it is phase 0, phase 1 is to Science World/Skytrain I believe
