I drove down Loop 610 West yesterday around 9:30 a.m. and the ceiling was so low that you could only see about the first 20 floors of Williams Tower. It was really strange looking.

I was wondering when they would take it down...

It seems like they was'nt really using it anymore...

OPP is getting one step closer to opening for people to move in.

From Swamplot...

Quote:
Discovery Tower, going up across McKinney St. from Discovery Green Downtown, has its first tenant — and it’ll be taking the whole building.

Beginning in late 2011-about the time Hess's current lease at One Allen Center expires — the 31-story tower with the wind turbines on top will be renamed Hess Tower.

This new building, to be renamed Hess Tower, will be the first energy efficient Gold LEED design in downtown Houston.
Btw Hess is a New York based Company.

I present to you yet another rendering of Five Allen Center...

Look at the Modern Sculpture!

From Swamplot..

Quote:
A major downturn in the economy tends to make it a bit easier to happen upon images of developments that have been planned in secret — though finding them can be somewhat less exciting than unearthing plans that are actually likely to happen. A tipster reports HAIF user lockmat’s discovery of two images of Brookfield Properties’ planned Five Allen Center office tower Downtown. We saw one hazy picture of this building back in June. But is there any more to it now than just a few pretty pictures?

Five Allen Center is marked “pre-development” on the Brookfield website: a 50-story, 1.2-million-sq.-ft. office tower planned for a 2.5-acre site at the northwest corner of Downtown — at the northeast corner of Houston Ave. and West Dallas. That’s a rather prominent position.

From Khou this morning...

http://www.khou.com/business/stories....166a7a69.html

Quote:
HOUSTON—Compared to the housing market, the Houston office market is holding up – especially in downtown.

Delta Associates says, in all, Houston’s commercial office space vacancy rate sits at roughly 11 percent.

But one office realtor said when it comes to downtown itself, it’s the Class A space that really counts.

Those are the top-tier commercial buildings, and they account for well over half of all downtown space.

Realtor Sanford Criner said the Class A vacancy rate sits around 5.4 percent, which is relatively flat for 2008.

Criner said he expects it to remain flat this year, too.

“It won’t make any difference in 2009. I think we can look at 2009 that is flat to down in every segment across the board,” Criner said
Theres also a video on this..and will be a report about uptown and other areas in Houston tonight at 10.

Here's a nice cap from around dusk, taken from Ch. 2's news on Sunday. The trio of cranes and the rising Discovery Tower can be seen, w/ OPP on the extreme left side.

Also, it looks like they're about to start clearing the first structures for the land METRO's Intermodal Terminal will occupy.

Didn't realize the space was going to be that close to UHD's new College of Business.

8th floor on MainPlace, 13th on Hess/Disco Tower... Man things happen fast.

Good shots Complex. Really liked that view from the corner of Discovery Tower. I took a shot from the same spot when it was only on the 6th floor.
