There was a rig of some sort on the site yesterday. By this morning, however, it was gone. It's taking them so long to begin demo on the hospital. One would assume that demolition of a hospital would add some extra wrinkles of complexity to the process. I wonder to what extent any hospital equipment remains in the building. Was it all cleared out when Columbus moved, or are some vestiges still left? (Are the ghosts of long-deceased patients still roaming the corridors?)

Oh well, in these times I will not insult any building that wants to break ground in this economic climate that will go over 50 stories.

I think Chicago fourmers need to take a step back and not slam any new development for awhile regardless if it is not up to your usual standard of excellence.

Quite frankly we are going into hard times.

As long as they are not demolishing historical structures to build new buildings then I am for it and will except a slight here and there to keep the construction industry fed.

Quite frankly, hard times are not an excuse to build cr@p, just to build cr@p. Its like going to WalMart just to buy something. Its just a further drain on an already junky market and sucks clients away from decent products that don't look like the demon love child of R.R.Donnelly and Park Tower.

^ No, the render is many months old. It is a step down from a previous version. It was not even designed by an architecture firm. As Busy Bee concisely pointed out, the design is 20 years too late. And as Alliance suggested, this site would be better off vacant for another 20 years than seeing this thing built now.

I'm solidly with Alliance on this one. I predict total POS or worse (is that possible?), and also agree that we're wasting a prime piece of Michigan Avenue real estate on more degrading junk.

The only worse outcome would be to have vacant land just off Michigan for the next 20 years, which I thought might happen... so there is a very, very thin silver lining.

It's hard to tell, but from the looks of it they're not even going for a post-modern look, but more of a cartoonish design that you might see in the context of a video game. . . for better or worse. . .

Yeah, this project makes the Ritz-Carlton shit pile they are building look classy! At least that one tries to pretend it has details...

This is so disappointing because the original render was actually pretty interesting....looked like a very skinny NYC condo tower on the UES.
