Skyscrapers in L.A.are generally not stucco but most everything lower is. Most of the newer condo buildings are stucco. It was the look of stucco being very L.A.; not specific L.A. buildings that I was refering to.

What's with the second crane going up right now on Barton Springs? I didn't think the condo's were going to need two cranes. This one looks to be taller than the first one.

Austonian is going to shoot up quicker than we all expect. The floors are not that wide or long at all. I filmed part of a short movie downtown a month ago with lots of views of the buildings and by the time I finish it in November, downtown Austin is already going to look very different.

well, i think they're trying to extend downtown so they started building outward towards the west. when everything's completed... austin's western side of downtown will be a little more modern than eastern downtown.

I believe it's supposed to be 420 to 450 feet tall with 35 floors.

Pretty much. The height we had heard most often was 420 feet tall. The Ashton is supposedly 412 feet, so yeah, they're close.

The thing I like the most about Ovation is the south facade of the building. The way the facade angles back like that. It'll be a nice change from some of the boxes. I also really like the top.

I took some pics this weekend but most are the same as Priller so I will not post them and go with a direction that I have not see one post from lately. From Oltorf and Wickersham area looking North West.

I think the second crane is needed at Barton Springs since its such a long lot and its only higher so that the cranes do not hit each other when swinging.

^ Wow! Now THAT is a cool view. Very nice. And just look at how the skyline curves around like that. Once more towers go up along the river and taller ones in back, that is going to be an amazing view. The effect is increased with those apartments to the right. Was that from a parking garage, or an apartment?

That property is pretty long. All the buildings go a good ways back into the property, so they needed two cranes. The length has to be at least equal to that of a block in downtown.

Those pics were from the stair well of an apartment complex, shot through the archway opening onthe 3rd floor. Technically it was the apartments off of Sunridge Dr, I just thought no one knew that street name, I was just visiting a friend and had to take the opportunity to take a cool view.

I saw this in the online statesman today at work. Kinda nice to see that plot of land get something to bring Soco together on that side of the street.

Bill Gurasich, co-owner of the Mansion on Judges Hill boutique hotel, plans an encore on South Congress.

Gurasich plans to build a 90-room hotel, with street level shops and restaurants, on the now-empty block south of the Congress Avenue Baptist Church.

The project will include underground parking for 350 cars and will incorporate the “Hey Cupcake” trailer into a plaza on South Congress.

Austin architect Dick Clark has signed on to design the project, which will be near the 04 condominium-retail project, which he also created.

Clark said his design will be “cutting-edge green,” with rainwater collection systems, automatic exterior solar screens and other features.

Gurasich said the project will have two major restaurants. His partner in the project is Lisa Wiidemann, general manager of the Mansion at Judges Hill. The mansion, on Martin Luther King Boulevard near the University of Texas campus, includes a high-end restaurant and boutique hotel.

Gurasich said excavation work should begin in November, with a target completion of January 2010.

Um, how tall will that building be? To incorporate 90 rooms, 350 parking places, plus retails shops? You know, I'm all for tall buildings, just not so sure it fits right there.

And glad to see the cupcake trailer will stay.

There's a parking shortage in the area, so the developer wants to make money on parking. Plus there will be retail.
