I can't remember where I read this, but I thought according to the initial reports - either by Brad over at PhillySkyline.com or by our favorite reporter in the whole wide world from The Inquirer - that there were no height restrictions for this parcel as deemed by zoning and that the restriction only had to do with square footage. Did anyone else share that perception?

Both articles were great, but I think the planphilly one was definitely superior. It didn't mask the difficult reality of figuring out how to manage traffic on those relatively tiny and obstacle-bounded streets; the supermarket is going to generate constant vehicular traffic throughout the day irrespective of the commuters and travelers that may only emerge from the tower (via car) during rush hour.
Um, I may have missed the memo or something, but...what supermarket?

That's an excellent detail I missed. Here it is.

Included in the proposal is “destination-oriented” retail. “When you internalize entrances, you make for a fairly dead exterior,” Sigel said. The building would also have a large chain health club, a supermarket and a luxury high-tech cinema among its planned 310,000 square feet of retail space.

that video said that center city had an 8% vacancy and high grade office space. Thats a good level to be at. Especially in this economy. Spells good news for the future office projects in Philly

Could something like this only happen in Philadelphia? Residents of one of the ugliest apartment buildings in Philly are protesting a skyscraper in the Central Business District.

If you don't like tall buildings, then DON'T LIVE IN THE BUSINESS DISTRICT OF MAJOR CITIES! They have no clout whatsoever...it'll be one negative letter in a sea of positive support.

So annoying. I don't think they'll have much say in the matter of this building if it gets close. It is too important to the city.

Acc

ACC will be behind the STERLING APT building NOT the Kennedy house, so their protest is absurd.

Right so...the CBD needs protection from ominous shadows and traffic.

Swinefeld posted this awhile ago, but you can counter the 500 or so postcards sent by the Kennedy House and tell Darrell Clarke you support ACC:

Thanks 215. I already posted a new efax to Clarke. I recommend that everyone click on the link and tell the councilman that you support the tower.

Just sent this message to clarke

You must to ALLOW the construction of the Proposed American Commerce Center the building will be a symbol for Philadelphia on the world stage and represents the addition of thousands of new high paying office jobs and possibly the headquarters TD commerce bank. You must not let a couple hundred NIMBYS block the progress and advancement of the entire city and region.

some one should post this link on Philly Blog too if that has no already happened.

i like the the proposed height, that be very cool

but..that is one poorly designed structure, but instead of that giant stick on top corner they should put some more visual elements on the facade and such
