Now, who said there's not a new Chicago School of architecture hot on the stove?

Maybe once the apartment market tanks, Mare Daley can give old Dave a call to seek another blockbuster corporate relocation?

Neither party is disinterested. Children's wants to move into Streeterville (which IMO is a poor choice for them because of traffic issues) and SOAR wants to avoid additional neighborhood congestion and helicopter noise.

I'd love it if Children's had to choose another location, but not because of some bogus study by a couple of random freelance experts.

So, while purusing SCB's website, I noticed that there was a rendering of Parkview East I had never seen before. I didn't know if the render was posted on the front page, but since the link is now dead anyway...here it is again.

Also, Emporis says "Although construction began in the summer of 2006 with foundation work, the structure will not rise for another couple of years, and the building's status will remain temporarily on hold." Thus shouldn't it be changed from proposal to on hold status?

That Parkview East render is 33 stories, plus a crown that is at least 30 feet high. It'll probably come in at close to 400 ft.

Bingo. It's just like any criminal trial - you'll have expert witnesses testifying both on behalf of the prosecution and defense. Any group lobbying for anything can come up with experts to espouse just about anything.

What I am loving about this situation is that Reilly is going to have to make a merit-based decision that goes against what neighborhood activists want. This is called leadership - as an alderman, making decisions based on what's best for the city in the face of vocal opposition, as opposed to holding countless meetings and forums, and counting raised hands and comments for or against, etc (poll-taker). Reilly is finding there's no consensus here, so he actually must stand up and make a decision (honestly it's not even that tough of one) and show some real leadership for the first time...

As for the chosen location for the hospital, I think it's fine. I think they've also chosen the right institution for them to partner with. Look, downtowns are supposed to be congested places. People need to accept that and move on. All these transportation planning wonks (not talking about public transit, mind you) should find a hobby or move to the suburbs where that type of mindset is valued...

^ my initial reaction is that the townhomes @ the base are a million times better than those depicted in the old rendering. not that they're mind-blowing or anything, but they look much, MUCH better than the sloped-roof suburban looking garbage shown in the first scheme.

The entire building is about 5 stories shorter though (no mech floors either).

The townhomes do look a lot better but it's a shame about the height because I prefer the top of the initial rendering with the overhang above the balcony.

I'm not sure what the technical answer is but they haven't even started marketing for the second tower so it could be "on hold" for years due to the current market and nearby competition (Peshtigo, etc.).

There are some other things I've noticed that Steely might want to change on the front page:

HOM/ Aristocrat Tower - Crain's article pretty much shows it's dead (and the websites don't work anymore)

1260 West Madison has already been lowered to 11 floors and even that is having difficulty with approvals.

5649 N. Sheridan (the Andrew) - from Inside, it seems like Beitler is backing out of the deal so this one may be dead.

1111 N. Halsted - haven't heard anything about this one lately, which leads me to believe this one is not happening. Anyone know for sure (Emporis?)?

And then some name changes:
419-427 West Belmont = The Winchester
Rokas Tower = 2020 (rendering posted above)
Avalon = 2100
Leland Park = Pure2o, as someone mentioned before

9 West Erie also needs to be added
