Yeah it's one of the best waterfronts in Ontario, I think these beacons will look pretty cool along the Waterfront.

Peace Beacon is actually the second Beacon to be developed. Dawn Beacon is at least partially developed, at Riverside and Langlois.

it looks like its coming along pretty quickly. thanks for the pictures.

i have to say, that things is pretty massive. i hope they've given some thought as to how it will meet the street. i'd hate for it to end up like the downtown police station... a solid concrete bunker from the three sides that actually face the road.

how is this project progressing? does anyone have any more recent photos or seen any final renderings of it floating around on the web?
this project is going to have the potential to have a big impact on the local area and will be a huge step up from the current digs... i can't wait to see how it turns out.

Bus Station is getting there... and fast. Windows are up. Picture from the other day:

The rendering I saw a while back (forget where) had the exterior of the building done in flashy yellow and red -- Sort of like that fire hydrant

And in other construction news:

New Casino Hotel is rising out of the entertainment complex

Work has started on expanding the parking garage, upper right corner of the building (not really visible in this photo)

I was in Windsor a couple days ago and that casino expansion is bloody massive when you're looking at it in person. Hope it doesn't look too out of place.

Blitz--it's difficult to tell right now, but the Casino expansion is going to end up looking like it's part of the exisitng building. The link between the two will actually be the full length of the block between Pitt and Chatham--and will be a multi-story structure itself--thats why the expansion property has the "open face" look right now. McDougall will pass beneath this structure but will mostly be used for hotel drop off/pick up and valet service. The completed project will look like a single building with a "tunnel" through it.

Slims? It was called the Car Hole Tavern when I first moved to Windsor, great little smokey pub, but it closed shortly after it seems. Nothing seems to work on Pelissier Street.

i knew it as slims, but that would have been a long time ago... way back around 1999-2001 i believe. but then i've been gone since 2002, so it may have been something else since then.
but yeah, i loved the place. lousy drink selection, cramped, smokey and excessivley loud... but at least they had a killer jukebox.

oh, and the casino sounds like it will be totally overpowering when its done. its great for the city to have such a money-maker, but man, to have it all built-up as one gigantic building with streets actually tunneling through it... that doesn't sound so great to me. it sounds like the kind of wasteland-making, grand projects that detroit has stumbled over since the 70's. like the ren cen, cobo and (coincidentially enough) their new casinos.

Did anyone attend the Ontario Lottery public information session regarding the Casino expansion last night?

Some of the highlights include...

The hotel's equivilent height will be 34 stories--with hotel suites on floors 7 to 34...assuming there is no 13th, the top floor will be 35. There will also be an outdoor terrace on the top level.

There will be a valet and motor lobby on the first level, with the main hotel reception and check in on the second level--which is where the two buildings will connect. There will also be a 24 hour restaurant on this level. The "skybridge" connecting the two buildings will run nearly the full width of the building and will be around 30,000 itself.

The Casino and city are studying the permanent closure of McDougall from Riverside Drive south to Chatham Street--this entire space would be used for valet, drop off/pick up and a "grand entrance" space--this is a change, as two lanes were initially to remain open for the use of through traffic.

They are studying options for expanded parking facilities.

Also--the new energy plant for the expansion building will be capable of directing up to 30% of it's output into the local grid.

Interesting stuff so far, more info to come I'm sure.

yeah cujo8400 (from this forum) and I went to the open house yesterday. i really was surprised to see that they changed how the skybridge will work.. no more connection from the parking garage, and a near full length connection over McDougall!

spoke to a guy at the traffic study portion of the event, and he said the city was even considering turning Victoria St to two-ways if and when the area under McDougall becomes valet and drop offs only (no thru traffic). so it looks like they're taking everything into consideration for times of high traffic congestion in the downtown core.

Yeah--as it stands all of the ped traffic from the parking garage will flow through the existing building and over to the new portion via the McDougall "Skybridge". However, this isn't likely to remain that way over the long-term. The expansion property and hotel have been designed to accept minors as guests--whereas the existing building does not--thus it wouldn't be possible for guests with children to pass through to the new building/hotel. There is some discussion ongoing of building a "hub" of sorts on the southwest corner of McDougall and Chatham with skybridges radiating out to the new building, the parking structure and possibly even the casino's corporate office building at 250 Windsor Ave.

Landmark Place in Hamilton, Ontario is 43 floors. I'll have to check Emporis--but another apartment/condo in Hamilton called The Olympia is close also--33 or 34 floors.

Outside of the "Golden Horseshoe" Caesars Windsor will be the tallest in Ontario.
