I think you mean the building to the North of the pyramid? The one that looks like that wicked church out in France, but done in a modern/ early brutalist motif?

If that is the one to be saved, I have some questions with the historical application then. From what I learnt, the pyramid portion was built in '77. The other portion was the original building built in '54. Therefore, wouldn't it fall under historical age status as it is older then 1960?

The city was simply not prepared for the snow storm and took them forever to get prepared for it. If your own snowplows choose to work on other projects (private) because they pay more..then you don't just have a problem..you have a SAFETY problem. The city should have it stipulated in their contracts that the contractors have to work on the cities roads first. It also took more then a couple of days to get all the major routes cleared. Right after a snowstorm, operators should be working around the clock to get the city cleared...PERIOD... If Winnipeg can do this properly, Edmonton certainly can.

As for the residential streets... all residential streets should eventually be plows (obviously major routes and arterials get plowed first). I don't know why anyone figures their street shouldn't be plowed, with the amount of snow accumulated on the road that creates safety problems at intersections, not only for cars but for pedestrians as well.

RE:124st/102st - i love that B&B et al, but if the buildings arent doing that well and the facades are preserved and incorporated into a 10-20 storey tower, i say HELL YAH....we need density.

RE: jasper 124st - that 20 storey tower SHOULD HAVE been built and would do WONDERS for that area and the access would be off of the alley.....if we think traffic is that bad in edmonton then you should GO SOMEWHERE REALLY BUSY .....EDMONTON HAS NO TRAFFIC...NO DENSITY....NO ANYTHING.

Citysource, thanks for the info on 122nd . That's very interesting.

On 121nd someone recently knocked down an older house and put up a large new one, and I'd always wondered why they didn't just build on the vacant lots on 122nd. I assume that those lots are still the property of the former slumlords? That's a shame.

It's also a shame about the house that was torn down for the Uptown. I remember coming out of the Mac's parking lot, and one week it was a business, the next it was for lease, and the next it was a hole in the ground. I won't miss the apartments that were also torn down, but that house was very nice.

There were some trades wandering around inside the old Saveco this morning.

And there's some work going on inside the Professional Building with some palates sitting in the lobby area.

Not sure how long those have been going on for.

/\ Professional has been for quite some time and yes, I too have noticed that there have been contractors rummaging about in the Saveco Buildings.
