I'd like to see Vinterra (hello arnie) come downtown downtown...with a classy central park brick look tower around the warehouse district with say 25-30 floors.

Im suprised they havent to be honest....

I think the "uber bling" building will be 6/7 stories from what I remember. They don't want to block the views that Illuminada 3 will have on the higher floors as they will sell for a lot of $$.

I can't wait to see what the Professional Building on Jasper and 109 will look like once it's been reclad! No more of that FUGLY concrete latticework! Woohoo!

In case anybody hasn't noticed, there's a Starbucks at the Illuminada. I think it's been up for at least a couple of months now, actually.

Christ, what a hangover...I have a brother working at the Black Dog and was also at the Suede Lounge. Have to go easy on those Grand Marniers!

I can't resist anymore...that concrete laddice work is a gem on an otherwise crappy building. A gem I tell you! Incorporate it with the renos, or at least do a modern interpretation of it (I believe CMD posted a pic of a similar themed modern facade a while back - looked great). I also hope they preserve the mosaic tiling on the street front retail some how...Ah! there's that hoping back again.

Hmmm.... I'll suspend "complete" judgement and opinion. I really am trying to appreciate 'era' architecture (Just watched the PBS DVD on Frank Lloyd Wright)... but I'm still lost on the lattice work. There is a Ruth's Chris in a lattice work covered office building in the south somewhere.... fugly as can be IMHO.

Going to the Druid for the game if anyone is interested.... (it's going to be a gong show of a game... Chicago?

Well, it looks like they changed architects. The original design was completed by GMH Architects.

that must hail from the 'ugly' era. upclose i just like the unique facade. we're lacking for anything unique IMO. If they could do a modern interpretation it I'd be happy.

CMD - was it you that posted a modern building (in LA?) with a mesh facade?

GMH architects - David Hamilton and Ed Gooch. Im not sure who the other one is. GMH is extremely busy with many low rise multi family projects in edmonton on the go right now.

/\ While I agree that there overall reputation is not that great in the city, they did recently design BCM's projects like Imperial, Founders Ridge, Fuzion, The Maxx, which aren't bad from the renderings.

And this one on the Commonwealth lands....office / hotel / residences...yes!!!

Wow, these are great. Nice architecture doesn't have to be 40 stories tall. Buildings like these would be great for downtown. Why can't developers bring something like these to our fair city? Anyone else have any great examples of what can be done?
Maybe we can start emailing these to local developers so they can see what we are demanding.

CMD, agree completely, nice choice of buildings there... I hope the Commonwealth sq. site remains a parking lot until someone is ready to build the city's tallest there, a true landmark E-town can be proud of.

EFG and GMH are fronted by the same architects, same office addresses etc...I think it's our great friend David Hamilton if I am not mistaken.
