Actually, they cropped one of my pictures and put it up on CNN.com here. You have to hit the "more" button under the picture of the fire (and to the right of the three thumbnails), then there it is!

I was checking out NEWS 15 on their video sight, it was cool seeing it go up. Congrats Mobile. It was a great turn out with people coming in to see it. And the one place giving food & drinks was cool. Nothing I know of in Texas has happend like that before.

The Riverview will get a sprucing up shortly with a crown. Anyone know what the height will be?

We got a good video of the whole thing Saturday. Curious to know what the pilot got paid. It was great to see people everywhere enjoying the event.

Trying to make it through the Wallace Tunnel from Baldwin County has become increasingly difficult (not that it wasn’t difficult before) now that everyone wants to gaze at the newly added spire. Have people commuting into Mobile from the east never seen a tall building?

It’s just amazing to see people gaze up at the sky while driving 70 mph, like there’s some sort of astronomical feat is occurring right over downtown Mobile. It’s amazing.

Dow’s Vision Comes to Life

If by some chance you haven’t heard yet, the spire that now sits atop the RSA Tower downtown, 115 feet in length, makes the office building the tallest in the state. It is quite a sight. The captivating moment, when a helicopter precisely and steadily lowered the building’s crown into place, was a long time in the making.

Several years ago, I was among many media types, local leaders and area business people on a dinner cruise along the Mobile River preceding the Mayors’ Cup golf tournament. Former Mobile Mayor Mike Dow stood at the front of the ship as we passed under the Cochran-Africatown Bridge and preached to anyone who would listen about his grand plan for a spectacular office building right smack in the middle of the downtown skyline. He swore it would happen. Some people were swept away by the mayor’s eloquent description of what he knew would be; others were a little more skeptical. Still, Dow’s vision came to fruition on Sept. 16. Yes, construction won’t be finished until February, but right now it’s obvious to anyone who looks at the massive structure it is spectacular.

Now, Mobile Mayor Sam Jones gets to finish off Dow’s vision.

"I think it also brings a new trend for Mobile," Jones told NBC 15 News shortly after the spire was put in place. "There’s a lot of redevelopment taking place downtown, both commercial and residential and this is the center piece of it."

The new focal point of an improving skyline is something of which Mobilians should be proud.

Although it’s been several months since any new leases were announced, my sources think the RSA folks have some new tenants in their pocket that haven’t been announced yet. I’m hearing a large brokerage has signed a lease and that Carnival Cruise Lines may be on board. I wasn’t able to get a comment from RSA...

...•The Battle House Hotel has been delayed again. Ron Blount, project manager for the hotel project, says the hotel will be ready for guests "first quarter of 2007, probably towards the end of the quarter."
