Similar to the video they used to play inside the tower for visitors. It’s a nice little video, but could be quite a bit longer and in depth. I believe the Martello Tower is the only site in Saint John directly administered by Parks Canada… but hopefully that changes by Saint John getting NB’s first National Urban Park.

Consolidating a raft of scenic locations around Saint John like Partridge Island, Fort Dufferin, Carleton Martello Tower, Seaside Park, Rockwood Park, Tin Can Beach, “The Reservoir” trails, Reversing Falls, Courtenay Bay Breakwater, etc, etc, into a single Urban National Park, would be one of the single greatest tourist boons for SJ in its modern history.

I hope our MP’s, MLA’s, municipal leaders, and other local leaders are reminding the PM of his ambitious campaign promise to create 15 new, National Urban Parks across Canada, and I hope they pushing for Saint John to be chosen as the location for NB’s first National Urban Park.

Saint John is not only the oldest city, with the most diverse built environment in the province, it’s also the city/CMA with most unique natural environment. Saint John is the logical choice for NB’s first National Urban Park.

The new Rothesay Float Walk is officially open for public use.

Located at the East Riverside Kingshurt Park along the Kennebecasis River in New Brunswick, the floating dock is giving people from near and far a new way to enjoy the scenery on the bustling stretch of water.

I’ve heard the parking lot has been very busy and people from all over the region are going out of their way to visit this new local attraction. I’ve yet to check it out, but will have to soon.

While this floating walkway isn’t quite a proper pier, it’s quickly proved to be a popular idea, and a good reuse of something they just had laying around. Frankly, I’m surprised Rothesay actually allowed this to go through like this, as it seems slightly dangerous, but I’m sure glad they did.

Local Rothesay comedian, James Mullinger, made a post about this being a walkway to nowhere, but I don’t think that’s a fair (or funny) assessment. 😅

I think the walkways popularity has more to do with the lack of public access to the stunning Kennebecasis River in the area, as the rapid development of the 80s and 90s didn't set aside enough public spaces and sold most of it off to the highest bidders.

They should really close it to the public during bad weather. I saw a video the other day during some strong winds, and the whole thing was rolling with the waves.

I read somewhere about extending it all the way to Renforth; wouldn't that be something!

Lmao yeah, it’s truly unbelievable how lame much of his comedy is, but I don’t know if that’s more a reflection on his comedy, or rather, his target audience, which is us… the people of the Saint John Region.

He’s a pretty big advocate for Saint John though, so I don’t want to rag on the guy too hard.

I’m really surprised a rules and safety obsessed community like Rothesay has even allowed this floating walkway to open at all, let alone stay open during inclement conditions. Kudos to them getting this done maybe their new mayor and council are more pragmatic, ambitious, and easy going?

Obviously this type of thing wouldn’t work at Bayshore Beach, but it sure makes me wonder what type of solution could work there beside the breakwater, or elsewhere on Saint John’s vast coastline.

Floating walkways are nice, Uptown’s new boardwalk is nice, but I’ve long felt what the Saint John Region is really missing is a great big, public pier on the Bay of Fundy.
