[QUOTE=Spr0ckets;10626161]Methinks there's a reason beyond just shadowing concerns why they wouldn't be inclined to build taller towers and more compactly spaced buildings in Japan,....
What are your reasons? Japan has lots of tall building taller than anything n Vancouver.
In Japan, they carefully plan their buildings to minimize the effects of shadowing, and they have more respect for one another. Cramming five towers onto that lot is too much and will create a giant wall.
The original plan was for four towers, and that's all that should have been allowed, considering the impact it will have on the properties directly behind them, as well as the livability and privacy of the new towers being built.
Neither the city nor the developers seem to give a damn about existing properties. All they seem to care about is how many towers they can cram into a space and how they can maximize profits.
The same thing happened in Brentwood Mall when they changed the original plan, got rid of the indoor mall, and added more towers, which was completely boneheaded. The same thing will happen with Metrotown.
