Recently, I had a chance to quickly visit Guadalajara for work. The city is the capital of the state of Jalisco and home to some 5.27 million people, making it Mexico's third largest metropolitan area. Guadalajara is especially known for its many universities that produce a lot of highly educated talent for global companies to hire.

Guadalajara's airport felt small when arriving, but it is actually rather large and modern. It's the main hub for Volaris.
The city is very well connected to anywhere in the United States and even Canada.
Car is the main transportation method in the city and roads can be packed during rush hour and even outside of it.
Zapopan on westside of Guadalajara is a modern city center with lots of high-rises. Glass tower below is the tallest hospital in the world at 179 m / 587 ft and 31 floors.
Walking to office the next day the weather was beautiful yet really hot.
Zapopan has some very nice modern architecture.
Surrounding area is full of great restaurants that serve some excellent Mexican food.
Zapopan is marked by a massive luxury shopping center at its core, which is very safe to roam. It was still very noticeable how each and every store does have heavily armed guards outside of it, indicating that you are still in Mexico.
Overall, it was a cool little trip to an interesting and a fairly less known Mexican city.

Zapopan, the modern area shown here, is a entirely separate city, but in practice it is fully integrated into Guadalajara and part of the metropolitan area. It is the western neighboring city and is more affluent than Guadalajara itself.
There is also another modern high-rise cluster in western Guadalajara, but we didn't get to visit it on our quick two-night business trip. City center itself should be more historical and touristy part of the town but again, no time to visit.
It was my first time in Mexico, so I have nothing to compare to, but what I saw both matched my expectations of Mexico, as well as exceeded them.
