Costs to city soar due to Enwave steam pipe shutdown.

A new report to a council committee estimates it will cost up to $6,788,880 to install a stand-alone system for heating, humidity and hot water at the convention centre before the steam pipe is shut off this fall.

The amount is on top of the $11 million approved by council in March to install boilers inside London City Hall, Centennial Hall, Museum London and the Central Library.

Over $500,000 and 8 months is way too much to spend on repairs to that monument in my opinion. I am not against public art by any means but i feel the money could be better used elsewhere, and also not in a spot blocking 2 lanes of traffic while they work on it. It's not even in a place where anyone could even enjoy it.

The new Middlesex County Administration building is now getting the exterior wall steel framing and cladding installed. Vapour barrier and wrap has also started. Should see insulation soon and exterior brick after that.

New Downtown Master Plan release.

After being hired roughly a year ago at a cost of $415,000, the Canadian Urban Institute is set to return the results of one of council’s long-awaited initiatives, a new master plan for the downtown, to politicians next week, building on “quick start” actions last year such as free parking and a crackdown on public drug use.
