Well at least we know the words "value engineering" won't come up on a future revision of this design. They baked in the budget design from the start.

omg reading through the design rationale "The design celebrates the history of the site as part of traditional locals nations territory. The building will be welcoming, playful and expressive of its function as a school and community amenity." ...

the virtue signaling is one thing, but the complete delusion that this design can be characterized in any way as fun and playful. It's a glorified industrial storage garage. At least the north elevation panels bring some colour (blue)...

I think they did a pretty good job with Crosstown Elementary. Seaside Elementary is a pretty boring design though.

Just a self-initiated project from some architectural firm. Most of their projects in Asia have the Concord Pacific Quantum Park type massing/form. They just opened a Vancouver studio last year.

Lead8 has produced a conceptual vision to transform Vancouver’s last remaining city-owned and large vacant plot of land along its False Creek waterfront; the well-known South East False Creek site between Cambie Street Bridge and Olympic Village.

The fact they are showing rooftop wind turbines (which are essentially snake oil) on their roofs doesn't inspire much confidence in their commitment to sustainability or reality.

So the abandoned autobody building at 5 W 2nd St. is finally being demolished - no photos, but it was well underway when I went by yesterday. Not sure if this means the proposed development for the site is going ahead, but at least it'll be nice to get that eyesore out of the neighborhood.

Yeah it has been empty for at least a few months. The demolition started quickly but seems to have stalled out the last few days.

The body shop may still have been operating until about 2-3 months ago. They've moved over to Venables now, but I saw cars being repaired in there in April; they had their garage door open on the Ontario side.

As for the new building, the development permit was issued last year, but I don't recall seeing whether or not there was a building permit in place. The building being demoed was built during WWII...

Building permit was been stage issued for excavation back in March 2025.

The trackhoe seems to be having hydraulic problems given people I've seen milling about.
