The city will lose control forever of this property that it has owned for 127 years. Plus, there are 700 workers that are affected by this deal,” Miller said.

Not every resident on the night was against the proposal.
After the proposal passed, Brandt CEO Shaun Semple reflected on the deal passing one of its final hurdles.

“Very happy, very happy that it’s gone through. It’s been a long process the last six months getting to this point. But we were confident after the executive council meeting that it would go through. And tonight was even better,” he said.

When Semple was asked why he decided to take on this project, he said, “The city needs it, the Pats need it, our fans in the community need it. And if it wasn’t us, who was going to do it. And Regina’s been very good to us and to our family, this is our way of giving back.”
They say he’s worth $4 billion so he could probably do what he wants with the arena District

Canada wants sovereign AI data centres. What does that actually mean?

'We can have something that's built and made in Canada, for Canadians, in a sovereign way,' says Mirko Bibic

"We can have something that's built and made in Canada, for Canadians, in a sovereign way."

Construction is underway on a new 300-megawatt Bell data centre near Regina after the company announced in March that it would spend $1.7 billion over the next two years.

Sovereign data centres are a good thing, but it's also important to differentiate them from AI data centres, and specifically the Bell one in Regina. The Bell centre is not a normal data centre (it will be a compute centre), and it is not a sovereign centre. The whole point of sovereign data centres is that they host cloud data storage (or computing) that stays entirely within Canada. So, for example, you could have an Azure or AWS centre where the data never leaves Canada. This allows greater legal protection of that data.

It's kind of moot because the US government forces American companies to divulge data from foreign nations (so if Microsoft has an Azure centre in Canada, the US government could force them to provide access, in violation of Canadian privacy laws). But you don't have to use American companies/software on them.

In the Regina Bell centre's case, foreign companies have already booked the compute, so if they are hyping up sovereign cloud/data, then it's just to try and get more people onboard, but it's a lie.

There’s a $1.5 billion proposal for an entertainment district outside Halifax — including a potential stadium — which could reopen the avenue for CFL expansion in the Atlantic Canada region, according to allNovaScotia.com reporter Zane Woodford.

Ridgehaven Holdings LLC has been working to fund a 25,000-plus-seat multi-use stadium. The Delaware-based company is led by Mason Williams, a Las Vegas lawyer and football agent, along with financial strategist Robert Millet.
