All the living areas face the outside while kitchen/baths are along the interior core wall.

Good observation. We call them wide shallow units. They are must more desirable from a natural light and view standpoint. A bit more expensive to build of course with more cladding system required per square footage sellable/leasable.

They were initially disliked in Vancouver because of the significant view blocking and shadowing impacts compared to squarer buildings with a central core and up to eight units per floor.

The Ocean Towers building in the West End triggered the design guidelines that still generally apply today.

Yep, Vancouver is definitely a bit of an outlier in that tower form generally proceeds unit functionality. In much of the rest of the country the plates are designed around the units but it tends to be the opposite in Van.

You can see the difference in more aesthetic tower forms in Vancouver but more "bowling alley" units with more forgiving rules around second bedrooms and natural light.
