Just like Ali Ahmed, Cyle Larin makes a fantastic debut in the Championship. With the scored tied at zero, Larin subs in at 67 minutes and scores on a diving header at 70' to give Southampton the 1-0 win over Watford.

So it looks like the 4 matches the CANMNT will play before the World Cup are

March 28th v Iceland at BMO
March 31th v Tunisia at BMO
June 1st v Uzbekistan at Commonwealth
June 5th v Ireland at Stade Saputo

Looks like some new teams to play which will help and based on some of the moves for Larin and Estaquio to get more playing time, should set them up nicely going into the WC

Would be nice to get tougher matchups than that. Playing the US and Mexico makes sense.

I'm more worried about getting a totally fit, injury recovered, cohesive team on the field again. That's the biggest question right now. If we can get that in June, I'm not real worried about if we play Italy in the first game.

It would have been nice if the Eustacquio move had been worked on earlier. Apparently there was a Serie A team interested but the loan to LAFC is only until the World Cup so maybe he could end up in Serie A.

Canada’s pre-World Cup schedule and the reasons behind its opponent choices
On the surface, Canada's run-up to the World Cup may appear underwhelming, but there's reason for it
Joshua Kloke nytimes.com/athletic February 10, 2026

And so there may be some disappointment about Canada’s scheduling, especially considering the team was in talks with top international sides and when seeing that its peer, rival and neighbor to the south, the United States will play Belgium, Portugal, Senegal and Germany before the World Cup. Coupled with the fact that Canada head coach Jesse Marsch’s stated goal for Canada is to win its group, it’s possible to see Canada as entering the World Cup without the maximum level of preparation.

But any such disappointment must be qualified with some important context.

It’s believed Canada Soccer had multiple offers from top European sides, including Germany, to travel to Europe for a March friendly. The federation’s top priority when booking the final four matches before the World Cup was playing on Canadian soil, though. The organization was resolute: playing in front of home fans was the best way to drum up interest before the biggest tournament in the program’s history.

Canada also has to deal with more climate restrictions than the U.S., which limited the possibilities, particularly for the March window.

For instance, it would have been a lot easier to convince top European teams to travel to Canada for friendlies had there been no concerns over the oft-testy mid-March weather in Toronto.

Yes, playing in Vancouver for Canada, where temperatures can be controlled, is an option. But the state of BC Place’s turf and the added flight distance for European-based players could be seen as strikes against the city as a host for pre-World Cup friendlies.

But the weather limited which teams were interested in making the trip, and Canada Soccer was unwilling to move on the desire to play at home.

That brings us to the June window.

It’s believed Canada Soccer was willing to pay what could have amounted to an eight-figure appearance fee for the likes of Argentina. Cost was not an issue the way it might have been for past iterations of the organization. Canada contacted many of the world’s top sides about possible friendlies.

Canada simply ran into new hurdles.

Canada will start its World Cup on the second day of the tournament with the third match overall. The early World Cup start date cuts both ways. FIFA has mandated that Canada must report to Toronto for World Cup preparations on June 7. Because of a start date that is earlier than nearly every World Cup team, Canada also had to schedule friendlies earlier in the June window. Canada’s June 5 friendly against Ireland is one day ahead of the U.S.’s June 6 friendly against Germany. It’s believed that Canada ran into questions from top European sides about the early date, as playing earlier in the window would force teams to spend more time than desired outside of their own country before the World Cup. That was a genuine roadblock Canada encountered, and one that led to negotiations with top teams ending without a deal.

There is always risk involved in booking international friendlies. While some in Canada will look at the U.S. slate and wonder what could have been, there is also the very real possibility that Pochettino’s side falls flat against those top-tier opponents, which could sink national pride and interest at a crucial time. (Conversely, victories in such games could serve as a galvanizing force.)

In the final two windows before the 2022 World Cup, Canada traveled to Austria, Slovakia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. The preparation did not ultimately serve as a launchpad, as John Herdman’s side finished 31st of the 32 World Cup teams. We’ll soon find out whether Canada Soccer’s focus on playing in front of home crowds pays off with nationwide interest in the World Cup and, most importantly, improved results from four years ago.

CanMNT star Promise David has been linked to a number of clubs this summer, including a fresh wave of Newcastle, West Ham, Leeds, Sunderland, and Brighton, per @TEAMtalk

39 goals in 76 games will do that for you, we suppose...

Alphonso Davies has gone down again (muscle fiber tear). Not sure of the severity yet, could be 4-6 weeks likely/possibly putting him out of the March friendlies.

Davies out with a muscle fiber tear and now it looks like Promise David might have an issue as he was stretchered off the field. There was a banging of heads and then possibly an awkward landing on a twisted left knee.

This injury bug that we've seemed to pick up after a fair amount of time with few serious injuries (to more than one player) is quickly becoming very troubling.

Edit: David's injury may be in the hip area

These types of injuries in 2022 were much more concerning. I love how we have some depth at every position now so we can absorb these knocks.

Big relief. First hearing the news I thought he'd be out for the World Cup...

Considering how many games we've played without Davies, we can miss him, but everybody else is crucial, especially Bombito and Cornelius (who is back in training).

The problem is we may only have two games in June where hopefully an injury free team will play together.

No idea who will be recovered by March and even if recovered they won't have many club games under their belt. We really are in a pickle as of now, hopefully we'll get some luck because for the past year we haven't had much concerning the number of injuries as compared to before.

After consultation, it has been decided to proceed with surgery on the hip muscle injury of our striker.

Promise David will undergo surgery this Friday and will begin his rehabilitation afterwards. He will therefore be sidelined for several months.

So FIFA sent out an exclusive purchase window email for members and when I went in to try to book Egypt and NZ (my son is a big Mo Salah fan) they only have Cat 1 and Cat 2 tickets and the cheapest is $530 CAD. Cat 3 and Cat 4 (upper level) were unavailable to purchase for this. I cannot see BC Place full when they are charging that much, the prices have to come down, right?

So you think there are 25,000 people, (once you take out VIP areas) that will spend $500+ on lower bowl tickets for Egypt and New Zealand, just because it is the World Cup as well as 30,000 that will pay $195 for the Cat 3 upper bowl tickets? For a Canada or a top 10-15 soccer nation, maybe. I just don't see if for the other games.

Especially when you see what the pricing was in Qatar (this pricing is in USD)
