Is Niagara Falls cursed? I’ve seen a number of proposals...none of which have formed into reality. When’s the last time a high-rise was built here?

Taking this one with a grain of salt.

looks stunning

the most recent highrise in NF that I know of is the Hilton addition, the city's tallest building, built in 2009

Not sure we need a tall/dense skyline here.. gotta walk to The Falls to enjoy it.

But one 800+ foot Shanghai-lite tower like that is ok with me.

It's worth mentioning that the structure on this site is a foundation/podium for a 30s hotel (Crowne Plaza Hotel) that was abandoned during construction in 2004 due to financial struggles. The top of the stump appears to have a floorplate for a tower already and can support up to 40s according to a news article I read, but the 72s plans for this tower would require totally redoing the central foundation of the structure.

The fact that a buyer could easily cop out and only do the 40s without having to redo the foundation work makes me think that this developer is serious with wanting to put this building up. They do appear to be preserving the shape of the podium, though, which will definitely save some time.

WTF! This went through? This is the first time I seriously visiting Niagra. I would stay in the building (hotel) and soak in those views for an entire weekend. WTF. Sign me up!

This building would be visible from Toronto! I hope it gets built.

whoa, 830'.

that's pretty surprisingly tall for niagara falls.

wouldn't that make it the tallest building in canada outside of toronto?

I believe there is a building in Edmonton around the same height.

Beautiful tower with a beautiful view. Not a fan of the parking lots, but that can be taken care of.

Wow, I was so drawn in by the scraper that I never realized the sea of car parks. So much potential for Niagara Falls. This could be the development turning point they needed for mass infills and a downtown economic surge.

I'm gonna be so sad if this one doesn't go through. It's once in a blue moon that an actually decent looking building gets put up in a "Tourist Trap" like Niagara Falls, Miami Beach or Las Vegas so let's pray that this one gets through the economic minefield that is speculative real estate industry in the 21st century!

Being an unashamed skyscraper geek I'll admit this building is fun (even though it's an obvious short steal from Shang). Why not.

One tall tower (casino?) is just another view.

I grew up next door. But Niagara Falls (city) has been putting lipstick on a tourism pig from Clifton Hill to later casinos et al for some time. Logical for tourism. Clifton Hill remains a hilarious (go there but don't tell anyone).

Before all this the Niagara Parks Commission had sketched/built a glorious ribbon of bike/walk/drive drive/park experiences along the river. Unmatched views of falls, the gorge etc. All the way to Niagara-On-the-Lake.

But the city seems not collecting/building on casino revenues and rebuidling the town itself. Why.

Better than the US side. Of course. But wasted chances... still a dumpy town. NF (Canada) city improving.. not imo.

Love the edge of Niagara Falls Ontario. Always have. Hope the city overmasters start to bring the town back.

Cancelled

As of Spring 2025, a 3-story parking structure with retail is proposed.
