NHL Season 2025-26

Free Agency starts any minute now, so unless someone else more official wants to start a new thread, I figured we might as well kick off here.

Corey Perry to the Kings. This should mean that either the Kings make the Final and lose to the Panthers again, or Edmonton wins the Cup next year.

I know Elliotte speculated off the top of the show that they don't expect him to decide today. Never know though lol

Haha, yup, a shot across the Oilers bow and for some reason it says to me that L.A. will win the cup next year so he can finally retire.

TSN saying that a 2 yr x $31 mil makes sense for #97!

Yeah, the CBA doesn't allow for more than 20% of the cap to a single player, so the highest McDavid would be able to go would be 20-21 million a year starting in 2026-27. And it's doubtful one player would be stupid enough to demand 20%, even the best in the game.

15.5m AAV on a bridge deal to the higher cap after all the new TV deals are well in place and potential expansion starts happening? I can see that.

Thought so as you know your hockey, lol.

Edmonton is in a bind, so close yet so far without the cap space and assets to put them over the hump. Sure they have some money freed up now, but that'll go quick when they replace a few who have left. The same dilemma Toronto had with so much money devoted to the core four, but at least Edmonton has come very close.

Mangiapane x 2 yrs.

I don't mind that at $3.6 to replace some of what we lost in the last 48.

Plus, I like saying his last name in various and alternating funny ways.

Teams should be saving their money for Bedard. He's an RFA next summer and so far Chicago is making moves to ensure they will be 8th again this year and lottery picking.

Rogers has closed on their purchase of MLSE from BCE and now controls 75% of the company. Probably will be 100% within 2 years as Tannenbaum sells off his stake (my speculation based on past reports).

Bedard is not that great. He regressed last year. He is a good player, but not anywhere near McDavid or macKinnon, and not as good as his 17 year old cousin.

Gary Bettman was interviewed on ESPN’s Pat McAfee show yesterday. When asked about expansion, he has now said that groups in 8 cities are currently reaching out to the NHL. The same 5 that were mentioned earlier (Atlanta, Houston, Indianapolis, New Orleans, and Austin) in addition to Quebec City and Cincinnati again. City #8 was not specified but it is most likely Phoenix.
