Bobby Epstein and crew have had some blunders over the years but I think COTALand is a good idea and am looking forward to Austin having a real amusement park! Location is much better for this than it would have been for a soccer stadium.

From what I have heard is Ferrari world is not doing too great. I know there are plans to expand upon cotaland.

The good thing about Cotaland is they have Matt Hughey who came from Six Flags over Texas, and is an amusement park enthusiast himself.

Anyone have more information on Epstein's plan to build a 430,000 SF convention center and 1,000-room hotel at COTA?

Not a fan of the logo, but it's not my project.

I haven't heard anything about the convention center idea other than on this forum previously - and nothing since. Is there more info out there about it?

I just came across an article about yet another U.S. race. At what point does F1 become too saturated in the U.S. We haven't seen a negative effect since Miami and Las Vegas and indeed F1 continues to gain more popularity in the U.S. My question is do we really need a 4th F1 race and at what point could it affect our race in a negative way? Out of the cities listed, I would say Chicago would have the most dramatic look so if a 4th race does happen, I'm rooting for Chicago.

I like F1 but I can confidently say I don't know much about their market or the business itself. What I can say is that the U.S. is an attractive market for them. While not all Americans can fly the the fanciest places in the world during F1, they can and will drive or fly a few hours to attend a race, so that's more money on tickets, merch, etc. I'm not sure that they would see four races as a bad thing if geographically segregated enough to capture more fans.

A 4th race most likely will not happen since the international community doesn't like the idea of the U.S. hosting 3.

Trees would obstruct sight lines from viewing stands, no?

I’m never going to be a fan of this track as I view the choice of location as a fundamentally missed opportunity. This should have been on the west-side somewhere in the Hills, with the track skirting the edges of bluffs and dipping into the river valley somewhere.

E.G. Michael Dell’s 6D Ranch would have been ideal.

Yes certainly! But where We need trees is actually along the paths and around the stands and concessions where it’s just so dang hot and sunny always
Plus that would add so much more aesthetic appeal/character to an otherwise flat and hideous area. Plus a backdrop along the outer edge of the track would be nice from the aerial views on TV and from general viewing

What about solar panels in some areas to give shade to people?

Idk, walking to Foodieland from the parking lot was BRUTAL and any shade would've been nice

Austin considers 1,000-room hotel and convention center project near Formula 1 track

Quote:
The city of Austin, Texas, is considering a plan to build a 1,000-room hotel and convention center next to the Circuit of Americas racetrack.

The deal involves Houston-based developer Rida Development Corp. transferring ownership of 21 acres to the city at no cost so the potential hotel and convention center could be eligible for tax rebates.

The deal is contingent on the transfer of real estate to the city with understanding between the parties the properties would transfer back to the developing entity — again at no cost — upon the conclusion of a rebate period. The deal is contingent upon approval of the state comptroller of the proposed arrangement, city officials said.

An affiliate of Rida Development Corp. plans to develop a roughly 460,000-square-foot convention center facility with an adjacent 1,000-room hotel and related facilities near the Formula 1 racetrack, which brings hundreds of thousands of fans to its grandstands for events.

Love the idea of a hotel, they should do somthing really unique and cool to boost interest year round. Hmm the convention center seems like a riskier investment to me. I feel like most people would want to be closer to the city for attendees.
Are there any occupancy stats for the car condo thing that went in?

I'll add that 150K Sq Ft is the amount of leasable space of that 460K listed for the Convention Center.

At what point is COTA no longer going to need public subsidies? There are better investments that we could be making than an expo center away from any public transit.... like maybe a real expo center at the expo center at the end of the rapid Expo center line. I mean I get that it would be events that are using the track but JFC at what point is this thing viable by itself?
