I’ve had some pretty low quality paper straws, and I’ve also found they sometimes negatively impact the flavour of the beverage. The worst one for this is A&W root beer, to me it tastes different (in not a good way) through a paper straw than it does through a plastic straw or without any straw. My solution is to just not bother with a straw anymore.

I've been at some social outings lately and talked politics at all of them. I didn't bring it up. I've been amazed at how many people are voting Liberal. But it doesn't seem to be Liberal supporters who bring up the election. The Conservative supporters are always the loudest about who they support it seems.

I talked with quite a few younger adults and many of them were voting federally for the first time. Many of them originally intended on voting conservative which was a surprise to me. But most are voting Liberal now as they weren't impressed with PP compared to Carney. They really didn't like Trudeau before. The only young conservative supporters were ones who have found high paying jobs in mining or run their own business and prefer a government that spends and taxes less.

I am not writing this because I plan on voting Liberal. I just wanted to share what I've been hearing. Some people I talked with are convinced that the CPC or NDP candidates here could still win. The NDP result here will likely be much higher than the Canadian average because our outgoing MP is Charlie Angus.

There were long waits even in Timmins today for advanced voting at the polling stations. Not something you see here very often. I was told that Elections Canada couldn't find enough people so it really has slowed things down. My brother told me that a lot of people went just because they were excited to vote and that many just said they'd come back tomorrow or another day. Having it on a stat holiday make the turnout much bigger.

It was an incredibly foolish strategy. Over half of the 2021 NDP supporters fled to Carney and the Liberals, not the Conservatives. All Singh did, was look foolish and unprofessional.

I hope he has fun with the 7 or 8 seats, while losing official party status. 20 years from now, there will be debate as to who ran the more disastrous campaign...Poilievre or Singh.

Very long lines in my half urban half rural riding in NB.

Couple I talked with were voting conservative but we're frustrated by PP's behavior. They are smart enough not to pay attention to the trump comparisons, but made a point of saying that he built his whole career as the politician who is "not Trudeau".

Few have any idea what else PP is (myself included).

The lines were nuts due to there only being a single voter box. Well over an hour with many older folks turning away.

In the line at the voting venue today, I overheard a conversation behind me. An older man with a heavy Eastern European accent (not that it matters) engaged in a discussion with a woman standing near him. They both agreed fervently that this was the most important election of their lives. Then the man blurted out something like, "If the Liberals win, it will be terrible", assuming the woman would agree. She politely but firmly demurred, declined to discuss specifics in this public setting, and wished him well. He agreeably wished her well in return, and it was nice to see two people with strongly opposing views remain cordial.

The lineups were as expected considering it was a holiday. It took about an hour to vote; this shows about one third of the lineup.

In most elections, a large turnout is bad news for the government, but this is not your average election.

Perhaps as many as 210 seats.
High voter turnout generally favored left-wing parties.

Perhaps, but what if it's a protest against a left-wing government? In my district the incumbent is NDP, a Hong Kong born career politician who has been in office for 10 years, but has been in politics for 27 years. The Liberal candidate is a newcomer, a real estate agent who sells to China. I voted Liberal, but I think the NDP will hold this district. Conservatives don't count here.

I completely agree. His endless interruptions were annoying and highly disrespectful. He looked like a 4 year old having a tantrum while the adults are trying to have an intelligent conversation. When I was in line today at the voting centre we talked about the debates and everyone who watched them noted how annoying and rude Singh's endless interruptions were.

As far as my voting went, I did plug my nose and vote for Carney. I took me an hour to vote and that was because I had a different number on my voting card. When I came out the people that were originally behind me hadn't even made into the school building yet. They had at LEAST a 90 minute vote time. It seemed disorganized and needed far more staff. One of the workers told me they had people at the door an hour before it even opened at 9AM. I think this shows turnout will be very high as Canadians know this will be one of the most consequential elections in our lifetime.

But straw’s definitely have a purpose for disabled people. Especially plastic ones, metal straws scare the shit out of me for some reason. It just seems so wrong. Gum cutters… ugghh
When I was in Sudbury I got bubble tea at PresoTea and they had big straws that were biodegradable and non-plastic and made from bamboo fibre. It felt almost identical to plastic and worked very well.

I think Singh knows that he's going to lose his own seat so he tried to go out with a bang but it was lame.

It seems as though the Liberals will do very well. I really don't know if they'll get 200 seats but a majority seems more and more likely now that the debates are over and the next thing to watch are the party platforms being released.

The current federal election is giving me vibes of the 2014 Ontario election where a new Liberal leader really turned things around against a negative PC leader who led the polls at the beginning of the campaign. The end result was 38.6% for the Liberals, 31.2% for the PCs and 23.7% for the NDP. What was interesting was that there were some polls released during the last week of the campaign that had the PCs ahead by a point or two and a few that had the Liberals and PCs tied for popular support. I'm wondering if the same sort of thing will happen in this federal election.

Except in that Ontario election the NDP did not lose any seats. The Liberals took away from the Conservatives instead. I think the debate performance by Poilievre will give the Conservatives a slight gain, but not enough to win.

As I recall from that election, the PC leader was leading in the polls but then made a promise to cut 100,000 public sector jobs. His support disintegrated overnight and the Liberals won easily.

The more I read about Thursday night events with Rebel News the more I am convinced they did it deliberately so Pierre would not have to appear during the media scrum...

It's actually pretty scary to read the actual accounts or what these hooligans and thugs did at the event. They're really like US - Trump politics - we don't need this here and I am surprised there hasn't been more reported on it.

Rebel News owner Ezra Levant was 'mentor' to Poilievre, says author

“ Poilievre and Levant would end up working closely together, including by co-authoring a Calgary Herald op-ed in 2002.”

If you’re going to make a big deal of something that happened in 2002, when both these people were relatively young and likely had a different personality, I don’t know how to help you.

You can go on X and see the videos for yourself - they were goons and thugs and anything but journalistic and democratic. And they support Pierre and the CPC.

Just back from early voting. It took about 20 minutes or so, with maybe 15 people in line in front of me. Not too bad. Good mix of young and eccentric-looking old to balance the generic, clean-cut ones - but these days, the clean-cut ones are probably not the Cons lol
