I LOVE #3654 - Simple but elegant.

#3679 is also pretty nice and is my second. The rest of them don't really "speak to me"....

Honestly the finalists all kind of stink. I think at this point the current flag will probably win, but if I had to choose I'd go for the centennial flag. I wouldn't be surprised if the committee just purposely tanked everything to keep the current flag, as awful as it is. At least its not a state seal on blue though.

ah damn, I had some nebulous idea of a flag that was a visual pun on a Feynman diagram and Illinois's rivers + Lake Michigan, but I never got around to making it.

Think the Beta decay Feynman diagram with the nucleon as the Missisiippi, the W as the Iillinois river, and the leptons as Lake Michigan:

I love this. And honestly, considering how Chicago was the birthplace of the nuclear era, it’s fairly fitting lol

My vote would go for either the Centennial flag, #4129, #200 or #3754, with the latter being my favorite due to its simple design and incorporation of the Chicago flag star. Not overly excited about any of them, but certainly better than our existing flag.

#896 is just terrible, why did that even make the finalist list?

After his most recent rant claiming that Springfield is 'holding the City hostage' for political gain, even though he's doing the SAME FUCKING THING, he is very clearly unqualified and unable to lead. I really hope this bill passes, before he's allowed to do any more damage.

For Chicago's trainwreck of a mayor?

Dare I dream the dream of all dreams?

This would be fantastic! It is a sorely needed democratic mechanism in a state chock full of garbage local politicians (Tiffany Henyard, anyone?)

Trump administration sues Chicago in latest crackdown on `sanctuary’ cities

https://apnews.com/article/trump-imm...3bb362d9b09844

Quote:
CHICAGO (AP) — The Trump administration sued Chicago on Thursday alleging that ‘sanctuary’ laws in the nation’s third-largest city “thwart” federal efforts to enforce immigration laws.

The lawsuit, which also names the state of Illinois, is the latest effort to crack down on places that limit cooperation between federal immigration agents and local police. It follows the federal government’s threats of criminal charges and federal funding cuts to what are known as sanctuary cities.

“The conduct of officials in Chicago and Illinois minimally enforcing — and oftentimes affirmatively thwarting — federal immigration laws over a period of years has resulted in countless criminals being released into Chicago who should have been held for immigration removal from the United States,” according to the lawsuit filed in Chicago’s federal court.

https://www.chicagomag.com/chicago-m...ur-next-mayor/

Some interesting potential candidates here. Alexi Giannoulias is the top one, which makes sense since there is a lot of buzz about him potentially running in 2027. He seems pretty competent and has pretty good relationships with many other power brokers. I don't think he is all that interested in giving up his cushy position as SOS for the total sh*tshow that is being Mayor of Chicago, but he could potentially use it as a springboard for higher office (governor, senator, etc).

Mendoza is another interesting possibility, as is Kam Buckner (albeit a longshot considering his 2023 results). Not particularly excited about anyone else on that list. Lori Lightfoot shouldn't even be on there. Yet another sign of just how incredibly awful Johnson is when his once universally reviled predecessor is no longer the most toxic presence in the room

Anyone, literally anyone on that list (Lightfoot included! Begrudgingly) is better than Johnson. For the sake of the City’s future, anyone else, please.

BJ's approval rating is at 14%.

Everyone pretty much can't stand the guy (except the CTU).

I think it's a forgone conclusion that we will be getting "anyone else" next round.

The shame of it is, though, how much more damage is the current fucking clown gonna do over the next 2+ years?

I sincerely hope that the next mayor really sticks it to the CTU. They deserve the total ire of the entire political system and the electorate for being so unbelievably greedy at the expense of the rest of the city.

I'm mostly ok with Conway's politics, from what little I've heard, but man the guy is *ambitious*. Real Master of the Universe vibes.

Dude really did the whole cursus honorum here:

-HS at Latin
-undergrad at Wharton
-JD at Georgetown
-MBA at Booth
-6 years in the State's Attorney's office
-4 years as investment banker at Chase
-5 years in military intelligence
