30 minutes into the count, very preliminary results, but the LIberals are leading or elected in 26 seats vs 20 PC and 2 Green.

Holt is the only leader to be leading in her riding. Higgs is about 20 votes behind the Liberals in Quispamsis, and Coon is about 20 behind a PC candidate.

4 calls have been made by the CBC so far, 2 LIberal and 2 PC.

*EDIT* And CTV is calling a LIberal Majority government already at 8:36. 30 vs 17 vs 2. Holt and Coon are winning their seats well with 1000 or more vote leads. Higgs is still trailing by 156 votes.

I sure hope this sends a strong message that Steve Outhouse style campaigning and politics doesn't belong anywhere near this province.

I hear Faytene is trailing behind, too. Imma be pissed if her losing is the difference between a 100% accurate prediction, as I changed Hampton to blue at the last minute.

Would be quite the gut punch to the PC’s if Higgs lost in Quispamsis, but he’ll probably still eke out the win. Can’t wait to see his concession speech.

Sounds like Rothesay will go Liberal for sure if Quispamsis is that close!

You can say that again! The CPC best keep that in mind for the next election… it won’t be a cake walk for PP if the Liberals give JT the sack, and go with a new leader.

I am quite happy by the scope of the win and the fact that we have our first female Premier (even if, at this point, we are really only beating out Saskatchewan, which increasingly seems to want to be the Alabama of Canada). Quite relieved and looking forward to a different tone from our new government.

There was no doubt about the increasing Liberal momentum in the past week or two. Even so, I'm surprised at the extend of the win. I would have thought mid-high 20's not 30+ Saint John and especially the suburbs are also a surprise. I have to say I'm quite pleased at the extent of the repudiation of Higgs' lurch to the populist right.

I just hope Holt can control the left wing of her party and we don't start seeing crazy pork barrel spending again. I am hopeful but time will tell.

He is very much an Alberta hard right populist type with a tendency to dog whistle politics in terms of how he runs campaigns.

If he was American he's be all in for Trump....... that type

Higgs brought him in not only on campaign funds but also tax payer funds to run his campaign. The messaging difference after his arrival was one of anger and division. The results speaks for themselves.

For whatever it's worth Susan Holt is young and I'm sure would love another term, if she wants reelection in 4 years she will need to keep some of these swing voters happy who put her there. The type of margins we are seeing in some of these traditional blue areas means we have a lot of moderates voting her in.

It looks like baring a recount Higgs has lost his own seat. I assume he'll be retiring I can't see him continuing in the political spectrum

Electoral Map at the moment

Latest projection from the CBC

I did say the Liberals could pull off 31 seats if Faytene delivered them a miracle in Hampton... just not these 31 seats in particular. Never would have dreamed Higgs could be that vulnerable in his own riding. It's crazy to think Quispamsis voted Liberal against and defeated an incumbent premier in Higgs, yet Saint John East stuck with the PCs. Shocking really, but a highly logical choice by voters in Quispamsis.

Would be quite the shocking defeat if Higgs lost his his own riding. Guess those Aaron Kennedy radio ads were more effective than, "TitleRequired" thought. If Kennedy does pull off the upset though, it will definitely be more to do with the Holt Liberal's running a far more sophisticated online campaign, and much stronger, much more positive campaign than the Higgs PCs did overall.

Congrats to Susan Holt and the Liberals, and good riddance to Blaine Higgs and the PCs.

And all of the Quispamsis polls are in, and Higgs lost by about 200 votes. Listening to his concession speech he's basically already saying he'll be stepping down. The fact that he won't be in the Legislature probably made that easier.

So far his speech is a class act to be honest, perhaps his best speech of the campaign.

Oh okay, so pretty much nothing then. I don't think that the left understands that the more left the Liberals go, the more right the Conservatives will push. Society will seek to even itself out. No Liberal can fairly complain about far right when Liberals have gone so far left. This is why we see such a far right push in all western societies right now. It's better to stay more center than anything and remain neutral. I fear though this has been ruined for all time and now each side will continue to push more extreme views until one side wins it all. Socialism never lasts and won't because it can't be maintained and isn't feasible. This was however more or less a changing of the guard, it wasn't about the party, but about Higgs likeability. We'll have to see how long Susan sticks around for.

We must never take for granted how important it is to live in a place where the loser of an election congratulates the winner and respectfully steps down from power.
