Could it happen - possibly, but I am not too optimistic.

On a brighter note, I see that the Wildcats are currently ranked #1 in the entire CHL.
I was at the last game on Monday with the black out jerseys, which I had never seen before. Their best jersey by far. I find their two main jerseys old and tired looking. I think that they need to dump some money into it. They really need a little love, especially that Wildcat logo, it's looking pretty old.

I would say the players like the new jerseys too.

I don't think you will ever see the Wildcats logo change while Robert Irving is still heavily investing his time in the team.

I agree with the above the logo is outdated and too kid-friendly looking/cartoonish. The team should have changed to a new modern logo when they moved to avenir centre but I think all they could get "approved" was the alternate logo and a small jersey update which you see on the shoulders of the jerseys and some of the merch.

Irving is a micro manager and is involved in nearly every decision thats made.

I'm honestly shocked they were able to get jerseys so unique approved or past Irving. My take on that is that this is the MacDougall's putting their thumb on the organization. You can't help but notice that these jerseys are the UNB colours. I believe that when the MacDougalls came in they were given a lot more authority with the team. Irving has a lot of respect for MacDougall and this was not the first time he courted him. He might be the one person who can get some of these things happening that Robert would have never signed off on previously.

I know he's already brought over one of the staff that was working for the UNB athletics department. I believe for the first time in organization history you have Irving listening to the GM and Coach and not the other way around.

Interesting to see that Charlottetown was picked as the other location instead of Saint John.

As if there weren't already enough places to buy beer at the Avenir Centre, I see that they have installed a couple of beer vending machines (not yet operational) on the main concourse.

How will they guarantee the person buying the beer is not 12 years old???

Assuming it's the same company the machine scans your ID prior to dispensing any beer

I believe there's a facial recognition that happens on top of the ID scan.

It's sort of funny to me because access to beer at avenir centre is basically only an issue in the rare occurrence of a crowd greater than say 7000, and even then it's not that bad. The prices of the beers themselves is a far greater deterrent from purchasing than having to wait in a line..

People will purchase out of these machines primarily for the fun of it i would guess. Wonder if it will still ask for a tip??

Not sure if anyone has noticed yet, but there will be 4 broadway shows coming to Moncton. Right now they are only on sale as packages or as they call them season tickets . I assume they will put out single show tickets at some point.

The shows are Stomp, Come From Away, Mean Girls by Tina Fey and Chicago

Yes, I saw this. Very interesting. Not really enough information yet to make a detailed post. Will each of these productions be putting on a single show, or, will there be several shows for each production? Come From Away should be especially popular.

The seasons's tickets concept is interesting. I imagine there will also be single show tickets available too.

It's 2 shows of each, with dates running from March to early May.

The end stage setup is perfect for this at Avenir Center with the steep pitch in seating.

Let's hope this does well and becomes an annual thing. Young people being exposed to to Broadway quality shows is one of the last remaining experiences that you have to put your phone away and truly immerse yourself.

I expect that the mean girls show will also be popular since the movie has a cult like fan base

Telling that it's at the Avenir. We used to get touring Broadway shows at the Imperial in SJ regularly but as I understand it the costs just got too high for the size of the venue. It's a shame as some of them were as good as much of what I've seen in New York.

Being so new I'm assuming the Avenir is somehow designed to be much more appropriate for this type of performance than your average arena?

They were very careful with the acoustic design.

So, the shows will during the thick of the Wildcats (presumed deep) playoff run. That’s bad timing......

Can't compare TD Station to Avenir for acoustics. But other similar sized venues, the Avenir has been one of the best for concerts. The Save On Foods Memorial center being one of the lowest ones.

Yes but concerts and theater are two different things and it's about more than just acoustics.

I'm curious, what's the Avenir's capacity when set up for theatre?

One thing I've always hated about shows at TD Station is the floor seating.....no slope to the floor so sightlines are terrible and narrow folding chairs with no arms so you sit jammed shoulder to shoulder with the people next to you.

It will be interesting to see the pricing for individual show tickets.

Some good news regarding Atlantic Slam basketball. 2 teams have been announced for next year.

Looks like each team will only play one game

This year’s event had to be modified to a single NCAA regular season game due to changes in league rules and regulations.
So maybe instead of paying more for one high quality team, they decided to spread it out.

Hopefully, they'll get some lil bit more high caliber teams for the rest of the lineup.

Nothing wrong with those two teams, but each made the NCAA Tournament only twice in over 60 years of existence, and the last time either one of those team had a player playing in the NBA was in 1996.

The Anteaters did made the news the last time they were in the tournament back in 2019 when they eliminated Kansas, which was ranked #4 that year.

But yeah definitely not worth having the province sent people to the Final Four.

For theatre sound I found the quality when Avenir had the Cats tour a few years ago to be excellent. I saw the last revival on Broadway that this tour was modelled on and enjoyed the tour cast more.

Prices for the season tickets can be pretty reasonable. $425 is the top tier price for all 4 shows. It can be done as cheaply as $200 for all four shows.

I see many shows each year on Broadway and the prices there are nuts now. Many shows you can't get even the back row for less than $100 US.

I went with a $215 seat package for all 4 shows in section 102, row 16 which is actually a pretty good spot. With fees it was $240.00. Plus I don't have to fly and pay hotels etc in US dollars.

Moncton puts on some great local productions but some of those plays are kind of niche. Not counting the Capitol Theatre's yearly big musical which I try to see, I haven't seen many of the other plays as they are usually not my cup of tea.
So to have access right here in Moncton to these well known musicals is wonderful. I think there is room for this and local productions.

There will be single seats available but I don't know what price point they will be. For Cats I paid $115 with fees so for $240 for all four shows that's a steal.

The biggest issue I see with the dates are the ones in late April on the weekend. If the Cats secure home ice through the entire playoffs this wont be an ideal situation, although you'd have to plot out the way the series would fall, in theory this could be when they are supposed to play a game 5 at home on a friday and it would have to be moved to Thursday instead.

We saw the outsiders while it was in preview in late march and we paid $160 Canadian per ticket and we had slightly obstructed balcony seats in the corner. I believe the good seats were 200-300 US. So yeah I agree this pricing is totally fair. I'd imagine single shows will eventually go on sale in the new year. I'm sure people will be getting the season tickets as christmas gifts. The end setup is terrific when the stage is moved all the way up at Avenir. We saw Arkells last month with that setup and it felt super intimate.
