A pleasant day. Overcast, mild and mostly dry.

Wednesday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 9 C, the low was 8 C.

First snowfall that wasn't a dusting. Always an interesting scene where the concrete and asphalt contrast to the white stuff.

Picked up this blue gold from the liquidation store that opens 3 or 4 times a year. $20 for a box of 5. Good value. Already had to use it about a week and a half ago. For some reason, at about 8pm the driveways on the other side of the street didn't have black ice but on our side we did. Like driving on winter tires, I love the feeling of extra grip you get when you lay down this salt and walk on top of it.

As for photo storage, I have 18 google accounts that each provide 15 gigs. They all have the same username and password other than just one digit that changes sequentially. That's for all pics and videos that I care to keep.

-6C and overcast in Moncton at 9 AM. The temperatures will remain steady all day with some flurries expected this afternoon.

Big warm-up this weekend, with temperatures on Monday reaching +14C.

Today might be the most kids I’ve seen being dropped off late. The drop off was full of cars and lots of kids still being walked from the parking lot to the school well after the bell rang. Was it that so many people didn’t have their car brushes ready yet and had to spend time looking for it? Actually could have easily used your arm and be done in 15 seconds with this type of snow.

Hey Coldrsx, we are looking at golf trip to Canmore end of May. Whats the weather like that way at that time of year? Mountains can always be a bit dicey in Late May/Early June.

Cheers.

I have plenty of older pictures that are stuck on flickr so I’m paying for a pro account just to prevent them from disappearing forever since I don’t have any backup. Will need to migrate them somewhere else at some point. A pro Flickr account is now something like $95 per year with tax and it feels like a waste.

Very hit and miss at that time of the year, but usually playable.

Yeah, and when migrtating, make sure you keep them organized! My dad had tens of thousand of pics and they were just all jumbled. My BIL had several thousands, most of his kids, on his PC. He then handed down that PC to his parents who didn't use it. Just sat in a guest room. I discovered all those pics and asked him if he backed them up. He did not. I uploaded them to one of my google accounts and also saved on my external HD. All my pics are also on that external 1 TB HD.

His photos are also not ogranized. All of mine are organized in folders and subfolders so I don't have to waste time searching for something.

As for weather pics, I only keep a few that captured something unique and I have it in a Misc. folder and subfolder called Weather.

Record breaking high of 7C in Winnipeg this afternoon. Normals for this time of year are a -9/-18.

Last year on this date Winnipeg nearly broke the record low temperature around -32. Crazy.

Always interesting to see the snow levels around the GTA this time of year since it really varies.

A super light dusting at my place this morning - much lighter than mega dude. I didn’t have to clear my car as none stuck to it.

Once I got downtown Hamilton for work there was basically none there.

I’ve also seen cars on the road with a fairly heavy amount - northern GTA has been getting some good snowfall.

Shows how big a difference different parts of the GTA experience in terms of snowfall. I don’t even bother buying salt as the ice rarely sticks around and I feel like I need to shovel my driveway a handful of times a year, meanwhile my in laws in North Durham are shovelling all the time from late October to the middle of April.

My office overlooks the Gardiner. You see cars coming into Downtown with various levels of snow. Especially noticeable with the pickups.

I love visiting all corners of the GTA. Not so much Toronto itself but the rest as I am a suburban kind of guy, just not mind numbing surburban. Same with Hamilton. I am more interested in places like Flamboro, Dundas and Ancaster than the city itself. However, now that I am used to less snow being in Burlington and Oakville the past decade, it would be very hard for me to move back to Brampton or be in my favourite rural suburb of Caledon. And I don't like Toronto in general when it comes to living so that's out of the question.

So even if some distant relative I didn't know about suddenly bequeathed to me a 3,000 sf mcmansion in Unionville, Markham or in Kleinburg, Vaughan or in "Magnaville", Aurora, I would live there for maybe one year and then sell it for a smaller house further south. And for Hamilton, there are some nice spots "up on the mountain" but I'd rather not have that snow so it would be a dilemma.

Just today I was going down that google streetview rabbit hole. I saw the buyer's address for a retail plaza transaction and I realized it was close to one of the favourite rural GTA spots up by Silver Creek in Halton Hills. I did some exploring again reminiscing about the last time I drove those twisty, up and down, narrow dirt roads five years ago. That buyer has a mansion. Gorgeous house but knowing how far it is to town and knowing it gets noticeably more snow than down south I ask the question, is it worth the extra square footage/land knowing you get that much more snow? Some people choose a 3,500 sf mcmansion close to the lake in Oakville or Burlington or in the city in Forest Hill or near Bridlepath and some people choose 7,000 sf on acreage in rural Milton, Caledon, King City, etc. I like the pros of both and wish I was so super rich I could have both and alternate. And of course, for a lot of these people who own these houses, they might be used to the area and want to be there or they don't even think about it. They just live where they live. Ignorance is bliss. In a good way in this regard.

I really don't like how dead it feels rurally for a good five months of the year though. My wife just went up to the cottage today with her mom and this is what it looks like from the porch. I've never been in the winter. It looks like another planet. The warmth and atmosphere created by the foliage is gone.
