Didn't they announce they were doing away with the girlie pictures? That should kill about half of their readership right there.

Thankfully, it's only an OPINION piece, and not a factual piece. Something the latter is lacking where the former is forced as the latter.

So the city report was an opinion piece too??

Get over yourself.

You think the CAO resigned because of a fake audit.

I used to have so much respect for you. You’re just like the rest of them.

On a different note, some early success in dealing with theft in the city:

This seems a bit anecdotal, but it's encouraging.

wait what? what was the real reason?

i thought "audit reveals nobody in city government ever has their performance reviewed" would probably be sufficient to can their CAO. what's the real story?

Postmedia is largely owned by what is effectively a republican PAC. I kind of have the impression that they exist in order to print made in Canada anti-Canadian content, while trying not to bleed money. They are practically the poster child for foreign interference here in Canada.

Kevin Klein now owns the Winnipeg Sun.

It is odd that they own all these Canadian newspapers. Especially The National Post.

That is foreign interference. Not unlike what Australian Rupert Murdock has done with FOX News.

I remember a time 15 or so years ago when the Winnipeg Sun's front page had a picture of a local wrestling groupie who had allegedly slept with a former WWE wrestler Billy Gunn following a independent wrestling show in the city. Gunn was married at the time and his wife found out and was none too pleased. The caption on that front page picture said SLUT in big bold letters. No doubt this was the type of important news on par with issues including local politics and education affecting all Winnipeggers to justify a front page expose.

The Sun deserves all the derision in receives.

Well that is good news, Klein has been known to drive me nuts, but I don't question his motives.

My go to sun headline was when they printed front page that a missing man was found murdered when he wasn’t murdered and no one said he was. He had been over served at a bar and stumbled into the river.

This seems a bit anecdotal, but it's encouraging.
I read an article about Costco, and the rate of theft at the store compared to Walmart and Superstore. It's exponentially lower. one of the higher-ups mentioned that one of the reasons Costco implemented a membership card, was to prevent the riff-raff (drug addicts, thieves, etc) from stepping foot in the store.

It has been very successful. Perhaps more Winnipeg-based stores can sell membership cards for a small fee, to ahve access to their store.

report on Downtown Return to Work. I think when they say "rush hour" is back, a large part of that is due to crazy construction in all parts coming in & out. I've heard from co-workers their 15-20 minute commute home is now 30-40 for past 2 weeks.

^ Re: safety. I was at Millenium Library just now reloading the Peggo card. Front doors are staffed with military commandoes, I think. Locked down. IIRC there was a recent announcement of some kind to re-design the foyer area.

Re: downtown rush hour. There were some issues with traffic light timing for a bit. Louise bridge closed for maintenance. And then the OB1 crews repairing street cuts for the fibre install on the main drags. P&M specifically caused some headache. Otherwise the commute has been normal for me. ~25 mins on the bus door to door to NE Winnipeg.

The libary guards have had stab/puncture proof body armour and gloves for years if that is what you mean by a military look.

Most public places and malls are going to that level of protection but some use the hidden vest instead of the external ones.
