Why is this so hard?

I mean yeah, they're unfortunate. Although walking around I can't say I've ever actually noticed them. Maybe one day we'll bury our power lines. I agree it's absurd that we don't.

Agreed. And it wouldn’t have to be all at once. Can’t they at least get started and do it block by block or something?

Yeah they're quite ugly. What is the history that everything outside of Center City pretty much has telephone poles? They start on Lombard on the south edge and Callowhill on the North. A huge difference when going to NYC or DC is no above ground telephone poles. They're not just ugly but they wreck havoc on tree canopies. Utility companies are always butchering trees or taking them down without replanting.

Burying power lines is expensive. Until it is a priority for our city government, it won't happen.

There are areas outside of Manhattan in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx that have above ground utilities. A street in Queens is even in the Wikipedia article for visual pollution. Anyway, the city was essentially still crumbling just 30 years ago. There's a lot of catching up to do before this is ever priority. Write to your council member or something, I don't know why this has to come up so often.

I mean other cities have done it. Maybe the city could partner with private developers who might be interested in burying power around their property.

An incentive for developers of large projects (like the Piazza) to bury utility lines.
But common sense aesthetic improvements do not come easy in Philadelphia...

I believe they still have to construct the tallest tower, which will continue on the existing structure to the north

Ive been wondering that for many months. It has to be costing them a fortune to keep paying for that crane which is sitting there doing nothing.

Anyone know what's going on with the last tower? Seems like the tower crane has just been sitting there and doesn't really seem to be any movement...

I believe they do not have financing to do the next phase, but probably anticipate sourcing it soon enough that dismantling the crane would be wasteful. Given the scarcity of funding necessary to do projects at this current scale, I wouldn't be surprised if that crane stayed put for quite awhile.
