Cool MILWAUKEE | The Edison | 362 FT | 32 FLOORS | ON HOLD

This mass timber tower was proposed a little while ago, but never got a thread made, so here it is.

Developer has stated they're anticipating a construction start in the latter half of this year.

The site is currently a dumpy little single story flooring wholesaler with a parking lot directly on the river, so this MASSIVE upgrade can't come soon enough.

Also, the developer for this tower has said that they're also looking at doing an even bigger (50+ floors) mass timber tower on the parking garage site seen in back of The Edison in the first image above.

They gotta get the The Edison actually built first, obviously, but pretty tantalizing none-the-less.

At least they're aiming high. A 50+ story residential tower in a city of Milwaukee's size would be a pretty big effing deal.

Here's a list of Milwaukee's 300+ foot buildings. Bolded ones have been built in this century. In terms of the average age of the tallest buildings, Milwaukee has one of the youngest skylines in the Midwest (largely due to it being a bit of an underperformer until recently).

That would be cool if that gets started building later this year! A 50 story I am not sure but it is interesting since it’s going to be made out of timber wood. So either way 32 or 50 stories would be nice to see big tall and changes in Milwaukee skyline. It would be most 2 big tall towers made of timber in that city wow. Can’t wait!

This is really nice, and a great compliment and contrast to the postmodern towers along the river. With this and a couple of additional towers, Milwaukee could have a nice little canyon effect along the river!

Wow, Milwaukee and Omaha are two of the most underrated downtowns in the country.

That's a decent skyscraper, and I like that landscaping plan! Hopefully the renders are true.

Tariffs put record-breaking Milwaukee skyscraper project on hold

Quote:
MILWAUKEE —
Plans for a record-breaking skyscraper in downtown Milwaukee are on hold due to tariffs and inflation, the project's developers said Thursday.

The 31-story complex at Edison and State streets would bring more than 350 units and retail space, according to development firm Neutral. Called "The Edison," it is on track to be the tallest mass timber building in North America.

But in a statement to 12 News on Thursday, the developers said "recent tariffs and broader inflation have materially increased key input hard costs," forcing them to temporarily pause the project.

"Our focus remains on delivering a resilient, exceptional building for Milwaukee," said Neutral CEO Nate Helbach.

Officials said the foundation of the project is complete after a groundbreaking in the spring. A timeline to resume construction has not yet been determined.
