Vancouver Construction Crane Count

How Many cranes are up around town?

Metro Vancouver Total: (work in progress)

Downtown Peninsula: 24+
(mcminsen)
False Creek South & East Shores
Broadway Corridor
UBC
West Side
Cambie Corridor to Marine Drive
East Van
South of Marine Drive incl. River District: 7
Richmond incl YVR: 9+
North Van (District & City-Lonsdale&Lynn Valley)
West Van
Brentwood Corridor: 15
Metrotown-Edmonds Corridor
North Road-Columbia Corridor (incl., City of Laugheed-Burquitlam-/Sapperton): 11
SFU-UniverCity: 3
New Westminster (excl. Sapperton): 0
Port Moody/Coquitlams
Surrey
White Rock: 3+
The Valley
Misc.

I have been doing site visits on a North Road project and was surprised at how many cranes were up out there. I counted 11 from the Brewery District to Como Lake Avenue. I posted in the Canada Forum to see if people were interested in a national count, but I really would like to see the spread across the Lower Mainland. mcminsen responded with a downtown count:

There are at least 24 on the downtown peninsula alone, not including Gastown, Chinatown or the Downtown Eastside.
-Telus (old building on Seymour)
-753 Seymour
-1111 Richards
-410 West Georgia (2 cranes)
-The Post
-225 Smithe
-Burrard Place (2 cranes)
-601 West Hastings
-The Cardero
-Grosvenor Pacific
-Mirabel on Davie (2 cranes)
-1335 Howe
-402 Dunsmuir
-YWCA Hotel
-1188 Bidwell
-1661 Davie (2 cranes)
-Terrace House
-Vancouver House (2 cranes)
-1090 West Pender (demolition crane)

At least 9 more cranes coming soon to downtown Vancouver on sites where demolition/site prep/excavation is happening.
-The Butterfly
-The Post (3 more cranes coming)
-320 Granville
-1550 Alberni
-Landmark on Robson (2 cranes)
-The Stack

So, how about reporting your counts for the areas you frequent.

Lonely in here. It seems an awful lot of cranes have come down in the last few months - I was expecting more in some places.

River District: 7.
Central Richmond: 9. Not as many as I thought.

Moved the thread out of general discussion as it is construction related and into the Urban issues sub. Will probably get more traction here.

I did some work on this on the plane the other day, but I'm sure there are many gaps.

Can we crowd source some info on these? Particularly there are a ton of lowrises I'm sure I'm missing and Cambie is a mess.

Downtown:

False Creek/Mt Pleasant:

Broadway Corridor:

Cambie Corridor:

Rest of Vancouver (Incl UBC)

Richmond:

North Shore:

Brentwood:

Metrotown/Edmonds:

Lougheed/Burquitlam:

New Westminster:

Coquitlam/Port Moody/PoCo:

Surrey/WR:

So that all gets us to the grand total:

I'm sure I'm missing a ton, and some may be down and I just don't know so please help me update this and going forward I'm happy to maintain the list and update it as need be.

Once the cranes for Oakridge start to go up of which there will be 17 total at peak construction, all the Pearson Dogwood & Langara Gardens, Butterfly devs cranes, that office tower by Pacific Central Station, The Natures Path Development, The office tower on Cambie and 7th and the mid-rise for the corner of Cambie and Broadway there is going to be a lot more cranes to add perhaps in the next year or so...

Btw Leftcoaster I think you forgot Parker on your Cambie Corridor crane list. I know it's on 41st but I think it still falls under the Cambie corridor list.

There is also a midrise crane erected for development just a block north of Victoria and 41st. not sure the name of the development. but the address is 5656 Victoria

I think Leftcoaster has it listed as "The Pacific" which is the name on the website. The thread title is Grosvenor Pacific.

Thanks LeftCoaster; Galaxy; Shift; Changing City; TheTerminalCity for all the numbers.

Finally the crane lovers come out to play.

New West only has the one at the Brewery District left.
If you want, copy the list and add or correct it with what you know. The bold type indicates the counts I am 90% sure of.

Cambie Corridor to Marine Drive: 9
'Rest of City of Vancouver:' 6

The crane at English Bay Residences (1668 Davie) has been gone since at least February.

There's one on Concord's Avenue One in False Creek. I'm not sure if the crane is still up on Pinnacle on the Park, but it was recently. There are at least a couple in the Mount Pleasant industrial area as well.

A couple more in False Creek/Mt. Pleasant:
- Midtown Central (Broadway/Fraser)
- The Beltline (8th near Columbia), one of those mentioned by ChangingCity

Cambie Corridor:
- Belpark (59/Columbia)

Rest of Vancouver:
- The Victoria (Stainsbury/Victoria)
- Commercial/18th rental project

So that's another 5, at least

224 W8th and The Beltline were the two I was thinking of in Mount Pleasant. There are a couple more going up very soon.

Pinnacle on The Park still has a hammerhead crane for now.

Roddan Lodge at 124 Dunlevy has another.

I think 155 Water has one too.

Only the one - The Beltline and 224 W 8th are the same site. Definitely a few other spots prepping and excavating in the Mount Pleasant slopes but they have yet to pop up their cranes.

Also a hammerhead crane is going up today at 2nd/Wylie, project appears to be called Olympic Station.

Oops - you're right - just one on W 8th. Several more digging in that area, so cranes soon.

There's another at 353 Railway ('Bench').

I think the Wylie 'Olympic Station' is Leftcoaster's W2 - it was going to be condo; now it's rental.

Somebody had posted that a crane had been erected at 1090 West Pender but after going to check it I didn't see one. So, scratch that one. Every other downtown peninsula crane that I originally listed I have seen and can confirm.

I was at Granville Square the other day and saw these cranes to the east. Two seem to be towards the design centre or north of Oppenheimer Park (?). The other crane seems to be in Gastown.

The two towards the design centre are probably Bench - 353 Railway, and Roddan Lodge on Dunlevy. The Gastown crane is 155 Water St.

Three more cranes I saw today looking south from the Commercial - Broadway Skytrain platform. Anyone know which ones these are? It's not in a part of town I frequent.
